Red face Just started using blankets/bedding... is there a safety risk?? What can I do?

Strange question, but Jazz is almost 20 months and has JUST started using bedding in the last few days. She used to hate having anything on her but something changed.

She also got a big girl bed (single bed) yesterday and is now on that which she absolutely adores and loves to sit in it and put the blankets up to her waist and play in bed, so CUTE!!!

Anyway, I'm feeling nervous about the possible risk of suffocation or being tangled in the blanket (ok its more like a light doona). I know the 'safe sleeping' stuff for babies, down the bottom of the cot etc but that seems impossible for a single bed. I thought maybe tucking it in but I don't want to create a suffocation trap. But then I'm worried she'll get wrapped in the blankets if I don't tuck them in (she moves around a lot in her sleep).
I think I am so worried because she moves so much. She really likes the bigger donna that covers her whole bed, and I'm not sure how she'll go hopping in to bed with a smaller blanket, although thats she 'safer' option in my head...

Any ideas or advice? Am I being silly? Feel free to tell me if I am I don't know, she's always just prefered to have layered clothes than bedding, she even hated beng wrapped at only a few hours old, so I've never had to worry about her being tangled or covered in bedding before!

Natty pulls the covers over herself before she goes to sleep, but once asleep she kicks them off. I am less concerned about the dangers of covers than I am about keeping her warm at night, LOL! If Jazz moves around a lot, I would think she'll be like Nat and kick off the covers in her sleep.
She is pretty strong now, and at almost 2 the risk to her in her sleep is far lower than when she was tiny and couldn't move much. I don't think you're being silly (I still stick my head in to Natty's room a couple of times a night to check on her), but I don't think you need to worry.
Having said that, if you are at all concerned I reckon use sheets and blankets instead of the doona.
Don't they look adorable in the big bed? Like a tiny baby again

DD was always doing cartwheels in her sleep in the cot, couldnt keep a blanket on her either. Once we moved her into a bed at 14months she had a pillow and blankets and she never had any problems. She no longer moved so much in her sleep but also didnt keep her blankets on either. Like someone else said i was more worried about her not being warm enough but that was easily fixed with sleep suits.

I wouldnt worry to much at there age they will most likely move the blankets out of there way.

oh gosh I wouldn't worry at all.

I tuck Ash in before I go to bed, but that's it. He's had a doona forever!

If she can move around then she should be right, the breathing reflex will keep her safe.

ive been wondering the same thing recently, its just starting to get colder and she would have a little light wool blanket but soon it wont be enough. i was worried about a doona. she has a pillow when i lay down with her to go to sleep, but when she is asleep and i leave her i take the pillow away.
