    hi love,
my bub was colicky from about 3 weeks for a bit. we used Infant's friend and a dummy after feeds. that seemed to really help him push the wind out both ends.

he has reflux at the moment so i just make sure he sits up after a feed for awhile, he has his dummy for awhile after a feed, but i'll take it off him once he seems settled; i do lots of cuddles with burps over my shoulder and we have put books under one end of the cot so he sleeps at a slight angle.

we also do bicycle legs for him when he has lower belly pain. warm showers and baths also worked for our boy. One thing i always tried to remember is it's not bub's fault, they aren't doing it deliberately. DH didn't cope as well and I kept reminding him that this tiny little being needs our help and doesn't know that its 1am and we want to go to bed. So i suppose compassion and empathy really helped me deal with the tiredness and frustation.

it's so tiring and sometimes so hard to keep your eyes open. I'd drink tea. Fold washing, wash up, tidy the house etc but i also had a hugabub to put bubba in. Ours outgrew this stage although he's still very refluxy at times but I hope you get a break soon sweety.

    good luck

You poor things. It's so hard in the beginning. I remember it vividly. I don't have any very good advice. I just used to sit in DD2's room and rock in the rocking chair with her on my chest, patting her bum. I would fall asleep sometimes but she was safe in my arms.....Being that exhausted is horrible. All I can offer some really big hugs to you and hope it gets better soon xxx

We used Infacol and it helped our little man with the wind, but the real reason for our crazy screaming matches was due to cow's milk protein intolerance (which affects both BF and FF bubs).

I don't know if you have had your bub assessed by a paediatrician, but you may want to consider ruling this out as a cause for all of the digestive problems they are experiencing? It is relatively common and yet, is very under-diagnosed.

I wish I could offer more advice - I know how hard it is

DD was the same when she was little. She'd be screaming her head off, bright red in the face, legs going like she was running a marathon. We used Infants' Friend and it was a godsend. I used it before her feed and because it's natural you can then give it an hour or two after the feed also if needed. I also found I had to make sure I stopped her several times during her feeds and get the wind up first, don't let bubs just guzzle. If she looks to be feeding really fast try to slow her up a little by letting her feed for say 3 or 4 mins, burp her, feed again, she'll be annoyed when you stop her but it's best to get the wind up regularly than it building up too much over the course of the feed.

In terms of you staying awake I can't really suggest much for that, it's really hard when it's day in and day out with no break so it's best to try and find a way to ease her unsettled state and give her some relief. I used to try different positions for burping and found sometimes i'd burp her with her sitting up and my hand under her chin and then i'd lay her backwards out flat and then bring her back up again and that would get the wind out. Also try laying her across your legs so her belly sits on your thigh which can sometimes help with wind or a belly ache. You can also try a warm bath, let bubs float in the water and that can ease wind also.

    Are you BF'ing or FF?

Hope you find a solution real soon. Good luck.

GBH for you That must be so tough.

I would look into why she might be like that. If you are feeding her, possibly something you are eating is not agreeing with her. Lots of foods we eat go through our milk. Coffee, coke, chocolate, dairy are just a few that can have a bad impact on bubs.

Do you have a recliner? I remember a few nights where Ashton just wouldn't sleep. I would put him in the close carrier and sit on the recliner, put the foot rest up, turn the telly on (mainly to drown out the crying a bit) and just pat his back. We would both almost always fall asleep. I spent a few nights on that couch!
