Do you have a schedule / routine / list of chores.....

I like lists, routines and being organised! I have a diary that is open all the time on my bench to write reminders etc in as well as little milestones the kids achieve.

On my fridge, I also have a list of daily chores that I do (mostly...if I am not hanging out on BB or FB!) Some of my friends think I am old fashioned....am I? I am a SAHM, Dh works fultime....I believe it is my job to run the home. DH does the outside jobs such as mowing, the gutters, car maintenance etc He also baths the kids every night whilst I do the kitchen.

I have people telling me to leave the laundry, worry about sweeping later. If I don't keep on top of the laundry.....it takes forever to get through. Don't sweep....we get ants. Don't do the dishes at night...bad start to the day the next morning having to deal with yesterdays dishes and making DH's lunch / breakfast for the kids and I.

I love being at home carrying out domestic chores / housework whatever you want to call it. On top of that, I cannot think of anything better than being with my kids, getting them to help sweep or hand me the pegs whilst hanging out the washing. To do it all though, I need my schedule! (I do realise I am blessed to be able to be a SAHM so please no knives! )

Does anyone else have a schedule / chores list etc hanging on the fridge (or where ever) that they refer to each day? What's on yours? Do you involve the kids in your chores or do they have their own? How is yours set up?

Would love to hear from ya'll!

Yep, I do, and proud of it!
I have 'Speed Cleaning' book and I got my daily list of things to do out of that. So each day, I work on a particular room. Laundry washing is done almost every day though.
The girls make their beds in the morning and put their pj's on their bed. They also help me fold the washing and put it away.
The girls know that when they've finished with a plate or a cup to put it in the sink for mummy to rinse.
I like to have an organised house

Ive not finished work yet but when i do i cant wait to be a SAHM! And funny you should mention it, ive just finished typing up a list of things i want to get done! Working fulltime my house isnt always the neatest, im hoping when i finish i will have more energy/ time to put into the house as well as our new bubba!

Ive recently lost the use of my clothes line due to naughty dogs thinking it is tremendous fun to pull clothes off () which is kind of a blessing in disguise because i now do a load a night and hang them to dry on a portable clothes rack on our verandah which means i dont spend Saturdays doing 4-5 loads of washing! & the weather doesnt really effect that as its all under cover!

I try to sweep as often as i can, cant stand the feeling of dirt or w/e under my feet! Mopping has become quite difficult in that i cant bend over at the moment, it hurts my back so i get DP to help me when he can.

Dishes i used to leave until the morning but have recently gotten in the habbit of doing them whilst i go so then after dinner i only have DP & my plates & cuttlery to clean up, seems to be working great!

I guess im old fashioned too, but im looking forward to the future

Oh I was just thinking about this idea this morning! I usually like routine, but with housework I am very haphazard. I tend to do the most urgent things first...so laundry every day, then i do the shopping, floors bathroom etc according to need. I like the idea of a cleaning schedule, but I am a perfectionist, so I think I would run myself into the ground if I really set myself tasks.

Would love to hear what others do.

if i dont keep on top of everything it gets way out of hand and then i feel that i am playing catch up for the rest f the week.

I am always blwon away by things you write hun.....sometimes it feels like I have a twin!

I might check out Ebay for that book...have been thining about since it was released! I have tried Flylady but get so lost on their website and email - very cluttered etc

I do a load every day - towels, linen, kids clothes, napisan bucket etc

I make the beds but the boys put the pj's under their pillows, dirty clothes in their basket, Bailey sets the table for me most nights and Noah has begun to help him. Last week I started getting them to take their plates etc to the sink but Noah chucks the plate and scrapes in the sink! I guess to compensate he does help unload the dishwasher!

I think Dh appreciates coming home to a clean house and dinner (nearly) on the table each night. I like to please him.....domestically atm though!

Ammaki - DH built a gazebo a few years ago and recently installed a clothes line (wall mounted) so I hang the clothes down there now....it stays warm down there too so even in Winter the clothes are pretty much dry by the evening...naughty doggies though. I try not to use the dryer though - too exxy!

Arcadia - a gf of mine actually sets her 'me'time so that she is not constantly cleaning - she loves scrapbooking and making jewelery so she schedules time in during the week.

Erin82 - SNAP! Me too. Makes me cranky! lol

    Keep the responses coming!

We dont even have a dryer for that reason, and the fact we live in QLD, apart from the humidity the weather does all the drying for me hehe. Being under cover too even if its raining theres generally a breeze that will help dry the clothes

I dont have a list as such but I have recently started doing 1 room a day & marking it in my diary or calendar so I know whats been done & just try to keep cycling it. So far, so good.
I do a load of laudry every day or 2 & either hang it on the line outside or in bad weather I set up the camping clothesline inside, which holds 1-2 loads

My weekly schedule is something like this:

Monday - Change towels, washing, FDC for DS so I try to do a project (baby book, needlework, cook and freeze meal ready for when #2 arrives), stuff that is hard to get done when a little one is around. We do the food shop once I pick up DS from FDC.
Tuesday - Clean ensuite bathroom, fold clothes.
Wednesday - Change sheets, we have playgroup on this day in the morning.
Thursday - Change towels, washing, vacuum entire house, mop.
Friday - Clean guest bathroom, fold clothes, ironing.
Saturday - Washing, usually only 2 loads.
    Sunday - Nothing!

I try to leave little for the weekend so we can spend time together as a family and I feel like I've done my "working week" so to speak.

I also keep the kitchen spotless each night and DH empties the dishwasher in the morning before he leaves for work.

You are going to love the book! It's my bible at the moment. I was having a very emotional day the other day, and the girls were at kindy, so I grabbed the book and spent 2.5 hours cleaning the house.

When I was home with the boys I had a list! I look back on it sadly now - I have no time! I used to follow Flylady so my weekly list was this:

Kitchen: Wipe down stovetop, Sweep and dust, Wash floor, Clean out refrigerator, Tidy pantry

Living Room : Sweep floor, Vacuum carpet, Cull/toss old magazines, Tidy DVDs and books, Dust furniture and sills

Dining Room and Family Room : Wash dining table, Sweep floor, Dust furniture, fireplace and sills

Master Bedroom: Dust, Sweep floor, Change sheets, Clean Mirror

Downstairs Bathroom: Clean mirror, Wash hand basin, Wipe down bath, Clean toilet, Change hand towel, Sweep floor

Upstairs Bathroom: Clean mirror, Wash hand basin and bench, Clean toilet, Change hand towel, Wipe floor, Check bin

Boys' Room: Dust furniture,Tidy clothes and drawers, Vacuum, change sheets

Study : Clear desk, Dust, Filing

Then I had the zones set up......for example the Kitchen and Laundry zone was this:
    • Empty/clean refrigerator
    • Clean microwave
    • Clean stove, stove trivets and inside oven
    • Wash phone shelf
    • Vacuum/clean inside drawers
    • Wash inside windows
    • Clean fan and filters
    • Wash drawer fronts
    • Wash bins and bin drawer
    • Wash benches and dry
    • Clean under sink/throw out old rags and sponges
    • Clean bench top appliances
    • Tidy pantry
    • Clean washing machine
    • Tidy supplies and check for replacements
    • Clean cobwebs and dust
    • Vacuum and wash floor

When I am a SAHM again I will be right back into it
