Is he ever going to sleep for longer?

DS transitioned to one day sleep a couple of months ago - out of the blue just started refusing to go down for an afternoon sleep. Before this he was having 2 x 1.5 hour sleeps a day.

However, now that DS is down to one sleep, he still only does 1.5 hour, but now this is all he has for the entire day! He actually copes quite well - doesn't get grumpy, just a bit starey and quiet when he's starting to get tired.
90% of the time, 1.5 hours sleep is all I get, it's very rare that he sleeps longer.

So, what I'm wondering is if DS just only needs that amount of sleep, or if he maybe just still needs some time to settle into one day sleep? What are others experiences?

    TIA

    Hi Sterla,

DS - 16 months - is down to one sleep a day - some day it varies from an hour to 2 1/2 hours....I know if he only has an hour he will be out like a light at 6.45/7 pm - which is great in itself ...if he isn't getting too grumpy, maybe he does just need the 1.5 hours...but it may lengthen depending on his morning activities, DS had a swimming lesson this morning and has been alseep for 2.5 hours so far, think I can hear him waking now though, , which is fine as if he does sleep past 3 pm he doesn't go to bed till 8 pm/8.30 pm....it's all a juggle isn't it???

    mmm yep, he's awake now

I would say that is all he probably needs as in sleep time. Perhaps when you see he gets 'starey' try some quiet time with books or a movie and that may give you a little bit extra time.
Does he go to bed any earlier? I found when they dropped that 2nd sleep they went down much easier at night and a bit earlier until they wanted to drop the day sleep and still slept and became very difficult to put down out night (hope that made sense?).
It made no difference though to the time they get up though whatever was happening sleep during the day

yep. DS actually improved to a regular 1.5 hours or more when he went to 1 sleep. before that he was having 2 x 40 minutes. He ocasionally has 2-3 hours, and sometimes only 1 hour.
Perhaps that 's just all your boy needs?

    Thanks for your replies .

When he dropped to one sleep he started going to bed much earlier - he's now in bed by 7pm most nights, whereas before he was around 8-8.30pm.
I think he must only need that much sleep then by the sound of it - he wakes up happy enough, and he copes perfectly fine. I, on the other hand, could do with a bit longer, lol.

    Thanks again

That all sounds pretty normal to me, especially if he is having an earlier bed time at night.
