    Nappy rash

We've just discovered today that DS has nappy rash (at least thats what we think it is) and we've used talc powder. What else can we use?

Is it fairly mild? I use cornflour on DD which if it is only a mild case, clears it up pretty much overnight. I also have a tube of Curash which is good when the cornflour isn't working, not that Ive had to use it many times.

I think Moo Goo (available online) is really great too, but you would have to wait at least a few days for delivery as I don't think you can buy it in stores, I could be wrong though.

You might be able to get some from Woolworths/Coles, they should both be open tomorrow

Talc powder in particular has been linked to ovarian cancer in girls - little grains can travel up and cause problems. Other powders aren't as bad but there have been cases of babies choking on them so it's generally recommended that they not be used at all. I have never used powder on either boy, there are plenty of alternatives that are safer.

I swear by cornflour.... even when DS2 got bad rashes it'd clear it up, and a lot quicker than anything else we tried before.... now it's the only thing I use!

Powders also can create perfect environments for bacterial growth (if not cleaned properly, thoroughly, or often enough). The become moist, are in a very warm area and can lead to fungal infections. This is particularly difficult with intact boys.

Like MR said, there are safer and more effective ways to deal with nappy rashes, powders are unnecessary.

I use Herron zinc & castor oil, Sudocrem or paw paw ointment.
None of these can be used with mcn's though, unless you use a liner

If it's spotty and doesn't clear up with a day of treating with creams/powders, then it will be thrush. We found that out with DS.

:yeahthat: & thrush will need an anti fungal cream.

I second a nappy rash cream with Calendula, I use Weleda. DS is 10 months and only only recently got nappy rash for the first time and it was really bad , it was actually blistered and bleeding and the poor thing was in sooo much pain.

I swear after the first application, most of the redness and inflamation had gone.

Yes! have tendonitis in right hand and left my post short, sorry! Hydrocortisol (generic brand), as it is gentler on the skin, we find is best to clear up thrush of the bum

I swear by sudocreme Only thing is that it cant be used with mcn's so I use disposables until the rash is gone (usually a day or 2 depending on how bad the rash is)
Poor little William, hope it clears soon!

    Thanks ladies
We've got this small trial pack of Sudocrem and been using that all yesterday. There's still redness and some little bumps, but it seems to have gone down a little bit. DH has a dr appt tomorrow, so I might tag along and take him with us and get the dr to check him out

I also find sudocream works fabulously.

Just a tip, I've found that when I use baby wipes (any brand or type) on DS he inevitably gets nappy rash within a couple of days. So now I just use a cotton ball dipped in water to clean him up and we really don't get any nappy rash.
