I am utterly baffled by DD's new sleep routine. about a month ago she was having 2 day sleeps. One was at 9ish am and the other at 1ish PM. 2 weeks ago she decided she wanted to drop a day nap and just have one long one at 10:30ish am til 1:30ish pm.......... Since last week she is now having 2 long naps one being at 8am ish and sleeping a good 2 hours and then again 2 hours when she gets inconsolably grumpy (anywhere between 12:30 and 2pm) She's sleeping really deeply and I have no idea what's happening. I am getting completely exhausted trying to keep up with her.
Anyone else had similar issues? She's 1 next week.
DD has never really seemed ready for one day sleep (14mths) but she has occasionally had one day sleep with no real problem - yet other days she absolutely needs two.
It is doing my head in - I have no idea what is going on but I just go with it. If she is grumpy and rubbing eyes after being awake for 3hrs, down she goes. If it is more like two, down she goes. I just take each day as it comes...
lol, i wish it were as simple as her yawning and rubbing eyes she'd go down! Sometimes she will fight until she just basically passes out! people say "doesn't she have a routine?" but the routine lasts a week and then she changes her mind........
Hope it settles down for you too. Glad i'm not alone!
They like throwing these curve balls at us don't they?
DD did something very similar about the same age - she dropped to one sleep, and then about a month or 2 later, went back to 2 sleeps for a couple of months until she finally dropped one. Saying that, every now and again, she'll have 2 naps still. I found if she was fighting it, but really needed a sleep, at the age your DD is at, I would go for a walk in the pram - worked every time. And we didn't (and still don't) have a daytime nap routine - she sleeps when she needs it, not at a set time .
Hi there. My little 1yo DS just dropped to one sleep - big one around midday for 2 hours. Never been a good sleeper though ....
I found when he started crawling and 'cruising' (holding furniture and walking along) that he is KNACKERED. has she just started something new or learnt a new skill? thatcould exhaust her..?
SammyRo: anytime I get her into a routine within a week DD's got other ideas. At least I can't get bored because she keeps me active! I've never responded to the "making a rod for your own back" comments regarding her lack of routine because I really don't mind! I sleep when I'm tired and such so why should she be different?
mustangsachy: DD seemed to have one day sleep for 2 weeks then swapped again. Some days she has been exploring extra. Recently I've seen a lot more cognitive work. I mean she really stays still and studies a perticular toy/object/action for ages and it does seem to wear her out. Today she was trying to load the washing machine and put it on. Was quite trippy to watch. Even DP commented that she seems to be mimicking actions right now and it's amazing to see her face light up with the "OH I GOT IT!" when she does something new. I also caught her climbing which is a new thing.
Thanks for the replies. Glad to feel that DD's not the only one out of whack
Yep same here! My little girl is turning 1 in 3 weeks time and for the last month or so there have been days in a row where she dropped her morning nap and just had one long early afternoon nap. Then went back to 2 naps similar times to yours and then back to 1 nap again. For the last week she has settled back to her usual 2 naps so i have no idea how to tell when she will actually consistently drop one of the naps. Im just going to go with the flow!
My friends son is 15 months old and he is still having 3 naps a day!
