Angry What would you have done

Went off to the local SC today and needed to feed DD2, we go to the big feeding room near the foodcourt as there are 3 feeding chairs/rooms within a fenced off area that kids can play in that has a plastic slide/cubby house and a pretend train.

DD1 was playing with 2 little girls, 1 left.. the other was about 4+ and following DD around which didn't worry me.
I wasn't sure who the little girl was with, there were 2 women in the feeding room next door and 2 ladies outside on the couch when i first walked in.

The little girl and DD start playing on the slide, she pushes DD DOWN the slide from the top as DD was trying to climb up it... i let it go.. DD shouldn't have been climbing up.
Then as she looks at me she pushes DD backwards as she is just up through the hole at the back, i ask her politely not to push her as she is not doing anything to her.
The little girl walks off and leaves DD alone for a bit, all good but i am wondering WHERE ON EARTH is this kids mum.
She follows DD around, pretends to chase her then they both go back to the slide.

The little girl gets up first then DD comes through the hole the girl full on pushes her backwards, DD falls and hits her head on the wall... SCREAMING.. i have to drop DD2 and go and check on her.
I'd had enough, how dare this little girl pick on my 19mth old...
So i told her off, not yelling just calmly said i told you not to push her... then told DD1 to stay away from her.... so the little girl lets herself out of the play area and goes to.. get this...

WAKE UP HER NAN to tell her that i had yelled at her.. i watched her walk out there and shake her awake...
So the nan gets on her high horse, storms in and starts lecturing me on how dare i yell at her grandchild, i told her i did not yell at her and if she was awake and supervising her granddaughter like she should be she would have noticed her granddaughter pushing my little girl around.
I stayed calm but i really wanted to just slap her in the face and scream at her...

What would you have done, would you have said anything to the little girl and how would you have reacted when the nan confronted you?

That's just plain wrong! Asleep?!!!! I would have done exactly what you did, only I probably wouldn't have been able to keep my temper as well as you, ZF. Don't doubt yourself, you did the right thing.

I would have done EXACTLY the same as you. Heaven help the nana if that had been my DP, he would have torn strips off her, nana or not.

wow - you did exactly the right thing.

I wouldn't let anyone push my LO around either if she wasn't there to see what was going on, she can't really go off about it to you. She wasn't being fair to her granddaughter or you.

WTF??? Who takes a snooze in a shopping centre baby room with a 4yo and think that they will be safe? Far out! I think you handled it well. You let a fair bit slide before you said anything and she had no business being so rude to you and you didn't yell at the child so she over reacted a fair bit I reckon. I just hoep for the poor little girls sake that this wasn't a regular thing for her kwim? It would be sad if it were.

Thanks ladies, now that i think about it the little girl was probably doing it for attention, her nan was asleep and not paying attention to her at all and she probably wanted someone to notice her.
I couldn't believe it, i hate confrontation but i stood my ground and told the stupid old bat what she really needed to know, to be quite honest i just wanted to scream at her.
The other 2 women just stood there stunned, they asked if DD was ok and shook their heads as the little girl had to wake her nan.
I also hope it's not a regular occurrence, that little girl could seriously of hurt DD, especially if i was one of those mums that didn't pay attention myself.. i always move the chair forward in the room so i can watch her as sometimes she can get a little excited with other kids and although a midget generally pushes back if need be .... don't know why she didn't yesterday, maybe she was too scared of the bully!
