    What would you prefer?

For all those looking at adoption im curious to know if you would rather adopt a newborn baby, or a child that is a little bit older?

XH & I were going to apply to addopt a little chinese baby girl before DD came along. The only reason we didnt is because when we came home from over seas I was already PG with DD (we went to Hong Kong first out of many countries over 11 weeks, so I fell PG about a month after leaving Hong Kong)

Right at this point in time I'd probably adopt an older child if I were to adopt as I'm pretty sure they'd find it harder to find families over "cute" newborns IYKWIM & kids are just great.... skip all the sleepless nights, toilet training etc to look on the brighter side LOL

ETA: I'm NOT looking to adopt but thought you may like my opinion too?

I have always loved the thought of adopting a 2/3 year old child

I'd love to adopt a 2-4 year old. I have always wanted to adopt, to give just one child a better life than they may have had.

I have always wanted to adopt, I have been fortunate to have one DD2 and am trying for another. If we are able to have our second I would still want to adopt. For me it isn't about a cute newborn baby, it is about giving a baby/child a better life than they would have had.

If you are interested in toddler or older child adoption, check out this book:

I also recomment 'Building the bonds of attachment' By Daniel Hughs for anyone seriously looking at adoption / permanent care of a child over 12 months

If I ever needed, or wanted to, adopt, then I would be looking for a baby.

I would look at an older child - anything from 2 years on I guess. Part of it is that maybe they would have less success with finding an adoptive family (although does anyone know if this is true?) and part of it is that with my DS I have been happier since that first year was over. I would only adopt a child younger than my DS.

The first phone call we recieved they asked us if we were interested in caring for a three week old boy and now we are in the process of adopting him. His half sister is now going to be in our care permanently and we hope to adopt her after she's been in our care for over two years (unless they change the laws again).. we also do respite care, have had a few over two years old that sadly have been damaged and after experiencing that I am so so grateful we have the rare opportunity to have babies from such a young age.

I think its awesome that people are so willing to take on 2-3year olds, bless you...

Hmmm...if I were unable to get pregnant (lol, if, ) I would want to adopt a baby, as young as possible, so I could experience everythig with him/her. If I already had 1 or more children, I wouldn't mind adopting an older child at all

I wouldn't care what age they were, if they need a home - I've got one and open arms for all ages.
