    Question AF Already?

The last 3 or 4 days i have had some slight cramping and spotting when i go to the toilet, it feels like AF is here/coming but theres nowhere near the amount i would normally have gotten.

With DD1 i bled for 13wks after having her then basically got AF straight away and was PG with DD2 by the time she was 6mths old.

This time round i bled on and off for probably close to 12 weeks and now am having cramping and slight spotting, DD2 is exclusively BF, has not dropped any feeds etc... is my body just that horrible to me that AF wants to come back already?

I have the mini pill but have been so hopeless at taking it, i guess i REALLY need to get onto it now, what other options have i got while BFing as i don't trust the mini pill.

TIA.. am not sure what my body is doing.

Ok now i'm stressing, the last 2 days have had some cramping but no bleeding at all IF AF was back then i would be due for it around now OR that bleed could have been a one off and my body isn't back to normal yet?????

GOD i hope i am not PG.. i know that sounds horrible but DP has said if it happens there is only one choice as we def could not afford another baby and to be honest i don't think i could survive another one so close.... someone please please please tell me there is just every chance last time i bled for no reason and maybe AF isn't back at all.... argh!

Oh dear hun no real advice here but I couldn't read and not respond... Hope everything works out ok for you... I hate to ask, but do you have an HPT??

I do remember that when I got AF back, DD was still fully BF, day and night, and I got one random period, which was a bit spotty, and then a longish amount of time, like 8wks maybe? when I didn't have AF... then I was back to 28 day cycles. So maybe it was a random hiccup bleed while your body gets used to ovulating/cycling again??

As for other contraceptives... my sister is getting an IUD put in as she doesn't like the mini pill. That could be worth investigating...

Thanks OP... i just FREAK cos with DD1 i bled for so long then the first bleed after was AF then not long after that fell PG.. damn DP if only he would wear a condom like i asked then i wouldn't be freaking out....

WHats an IUD and is it safe while breastfeeding?

I don't have a HPT, am so so tempted to run out and buy one but i'm not sure i want to know, i really don't want to think of the options, it makes me sick to think about it but DP has basically said no choice and it makes me feel horrid... damn it. now i am upset and i don't even know if i have a reason to be upset... the weird thing is with both my girls i just had that feeling that i was, i didn't have any PG symptoms i just knew it... lately i have found myself wondering when that last bleed was and freaking myself out...

it's not unusual for AF to be irregular when it first comes back post-birth hun
if you're concerned, do a test and put your mind at ease or work out what you're going to do - no point stressing on this for days

IUD is an intrauterine device - something they insert into your uterus, somehow stops you getting pg. Yes I am very technical about it I think it either thins the lining of the uterus and prevents the egg from implanting or something similar, not too sure.

But it must be safe to use while BF - my nephew is only 4mths and still fully BF day and night. She's getting it in this week. Downside is you need to see a Gynae to have it put in I think - so not sure about cost involved.

But once it is in, it will provide protection for a number of years - in my sister's case it is 5 yrs. So that's pretty cool.

Hope you sort this all out...

Try not to stress. When AF came back for me she was 6 - 8 weeks apart for ages. I did not have a single 28 - 30 day cycle before concieving this bub.
6 - 8 weeks, then suddenly 3 weeks, then 2 weeks apart for a few months before my bfp. Was just waiting to get in to see a doc when this suprise happened!
    Goodluck with your hpt

ETA - Mirena is an IUD. A few people are using it, or have. I'm pretty sure your gp can put it in.

i really hope its just your body adjusting after the birth of z.
i had the mirena put in jan 2009 and got it out 11 months later to ttc and i wish i had it back in!!! before it i had continous bleeding for 4 months straight and other probs and it made a hell of a difference.
if you have any questions pm me.
i think if you aren't planning on adding to your family its great as it is meant to last 5 years.
best of luck huni and hugs xox

Ah yes, the joys of small towns!!!! If I was heading your way this weekend, I'd drop one in to you!

But I think Briggsy's Girl is right - AF can be all over the place when it first comes back. Hope you're okay ZF.

I never thought i would be happy to say it but i got AF today!

Mind you she had to arrive 30min AFTER i had gone and bought a 3pk of HPT's....

Thanks so much everyone for your support, DP and i will be having a discussion about his 'lil friend' wearing a rain coat i think, i can't go through this stress every month, i might also book into a GP and check what the best options are for me while BFIng.

    Your all wonderful

Glad to hear you had some relief.

The IUD is a copper T shaped thingo. It's safe to use while BFing and results last 5 years. My friend got her's inserted by an Obstetrician and is quite pleased with the erm........ performance There is a heap of info on the net regarding it too.

You could always send DP for the snip though!
