I need some people to brainstorm - risks of oil/column heaters

Ok so it has got down to 7 degrees here in the wee hours of the morning, and its waking Jazz up, so tonight we have put an oil heater (column heater) in her room.

We have cleaned up her room, nothing can roll or fall onto it. It's not in the centre of the room but has enough room to walk around. We've got it so the cord isn't a trip hazard, and also isn't anywhere near the heat so it can't melt.
It has a timer that we have set to turn on 3 times a night for 45 minutes each time. The heat is set on low-medium. The heat setting is easy to change (not that Jazz has seen us touch it but the dial is not hard to turn) BUT even at its hotest its never really enough to cause serious burns unless you actually pressed your skin against it and left it there until it burnt.
We also tested our smoke alarms.

I think we have thought of most of the risks but I'm so nervous of something happening. Can anyone else think of any other risks that I haven't thought of yet?

I think you have covered it all. I suppose the other thing is if you have it on during the day is to teach her its hot and not to touch but you dont really have to worry about that if she is in her cot and cant get out of it by herself.

I think you have everything covered! We use oil heaters in our girl's rooms too. I think they are by far the safest!
We actually only got ours out again today!

sounds pretty safe to me! it's not sitting too close to anything or has curtains or anything hanging near it?

It sounds to me like you have thought everything through about the set up and the type of heater you are using. It should be as safe as it can get. The cold nights are starting to get to my daughter a bit as well so I am setting hers up in her room tomorrow night.

I love oil heaters. Safest way to go IMO. Won't be using ours this year though. Will have to get the fire to work extra hard to warm the whole house. Am not paying for the extra power!

We used one of these too when DS was small... Cost an arm and a leg to run, but it worked a treat. Just make sure whatever floor coverings you have are also safe.
