blackmores then switching to elevit?
Hi All,
We are ttc but since i have PCOS i dont know how long it will take. So i have been taking elevit which is more than 2 times the cost of blackmores.
I was thinking of saving some money and taking blackmores until i get UTD then switch to Elevit.
Has anyone done this before and will the be any adverse effects?
I started using blackmores when I found out I was pregnant with DD, but I swapped to Elevit after a while because I was struggling so much to swallow blackmores (they are like the size of horse pills!). I didn't have any ill effects, pregnancy vitamins/supplements are all basically the same anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about swapping.
I found that the elevit has higher levels of the essential vits that you need and they are easier to swallow. When I was looking I also found that with the elevit you only have to take one a day and with the blackmores you have to take 2 (they may have a new product out now though...) so although the elevit works out a bit more expensive you are getting a similar period of time out of them if you catch my drift...I would stick with elevit if I was you. Xx
I was on elevit for about 12 months and then found out it didn't contain iodine which is essential for healthy brain development in bubs so switched to blackmores gold which has iodine about 3 months before falling preg.
My obstetrician asked me the other day which multi I was taking and he said definately blackmores is the one to take, it has everything you need in it.
But any pregnancy multi is better than none
If you like elevit maybe you could use iodised salt in your cooking to get the iodine

Thanks ladies.
Was talking to a few friends, she said the tablets is the size of a pen lid! That has put me off because i find elevit so hard to swallow already! and you have to take 2.
yep that was my problem too, I just couldn't swallow the blackmores. And they are a gel capsule too so you can't chop them up...I used to chop the elevit tablets up into about 4 pieces
I'm not sure about switching I'm taking the Blackmores gold mainly because they are cheaper and the dr told me they were by far the best in her opinion but it takes me about a whole glass of juice to get it down due to the size I cut panadol into quarters lol
