ive had sore nipples for around 4 weeks now, at first i though it was because DD (15months) was sick and i was letting her feed more often, but 4 weeks later and there still sore, its hurts like buggery when she attaches so im not sure if its a sudden attachment issue, i dont think its thrush..or could it be?? they hurts to touch, in the shower etc.. tjhey seem a little more red than normal too, but TBH i dont really take that much notice of the colour
Hugs Olive....it could be thrush but its hard to say. When I had nipple thrush my nipples had a distinct pinky / reddy tinge to them and almost a little bit of a shiny appearance to them IYKWIM? A GP could probably diagnose it I guess? I used Daktarin Gel to clear it up - on my nipples & in DS' mouth. HAve you had antibiotics recently? That can be a trigger. And maybe check out your DDs mouth to see if it looks like there is any thrush in there? I hope it resolves for you soon.
The other thing I though of was whether AF is on the way??

DD was on ab's until last tuesday, when i first suspected thrush i checked her mouth but cant see any white spots i have daktarin gel so might just treat myself.

If the pain is there after feeds also, I would suspect thrush. Thrush isn't always easy to see in the mouth - there could be the odd spot hiding under the gums etc, and if she has been on abs there is a reasonable chance she might have some. Thrush on breasts can be there without being visible, it can also be red, white, shiny and/flaky - there are so many different "normals" to thrush.
Trying the gel sounds like a great idea, but you will need to use it on your DD also. Apply it with your finger, not the spoon they supply with the gel, and rub it on.
Is she teething at all? Sometimes I think a toddler's saliva is more acidic while teething and that might irritate your nipples. If it isn't thrush, maybe it's this? Check your attachment too, obviously.
is the redness area growing? I have had mastitis 4 times, and 2 of those times the redness started at the areola. if so see a dr for antibiotics.
