Question 17 Weeks Pregnant and Shoulder Tip Pain

    Hi Ladies,

I had a bit of a rough night's sleep last night. Struggled to get comfortable and got up 4 times to pee. Woke up this morning and I have shoulder tip pain. Mostly in my right but also in my left. Can anyone shed some light on this? Naturally I googled and most answers pointed to the fact that the pelvis/ body is stretching and this can cause joints and muslces to ache but the majority of the answers were vague and also who can really trust google

    Any help is appreciated

Thanks Ladies and I hope you are all having a great start to your weekend!

It could simply be stretching and growing

but because you specifcally said 'shoulder tip', pain in that area can indicate pressure on your diaphram. Now, once again this could just be because your uterus is growing and moving everything up. but I wouldn't think it would be that significant at only 17weeks.

have you been ..regular? (sorry TMI, dont put it on here just think about it)

the hips joints do get slightly wider during pregnancy, but as Teiae said, at 17 weeks it shoudnt be too noticable but who knows, we are all different so it is possible.

I get really bad hip and shoulder pain when im sleeping which has been keeping me awake alot lately. I've discovered something that has helped tremendously....a blow up floatie ring (not sure of its correct name sorry) The ones used for swimming if that helps. I place my hip in the middle of the ring and it seems to prop me up enough so that the my hips are not under so much pressure. I also put a pillow between my knees. With the shoulder pain, i also use pillows to prop me up slightly and it helps to reduce pressure as well.

I agree about pressure on the diaphragm. If you have any other symptoms, such as fever, nausea or you just feel plain off, etc I would suggest going to the Dr to have it checked out, otherwise just monitor it for now.

I had shoulder tip pain with my last 2 pregnancies. It worked out to be because of my carpal tunnel. Have you had any numbness or pain in your hands or wrists?

I had some acupuncture done and it went away.

I had shoulder pain this pregnancy and it was due to being bloated.... not sure if you may be but it could be a possiblity.

Thanks Ladies for the replies and the tips!

Teirae - hehe! No worries at all! Yes I have been regular

Lisa - No, I don't think my wrists have been numb but then again, I haven't really been paying attention?

I honestly think it had to do with bloating and some wind trapped in there somewhere. Last night the wind cramps where like stitches in my stomach. It was so annoying! I got up and walked around for a bit and I found that it worked its way out
Seems to have gone now though!

I have been using a really soft pillow to try and support my stomach and hips but it doesn't seem to be working all that well so I think it might be time to go and get a body pillow.

    Thanks again Ladies!

that bloating could be putting the pressure on your diaphram and causing them pain.

Glad its going, keep tabs on it and if it gets worse see a dr.

I had this pain too and i was thinking but i know i havent got an ectopic as i was as far along as you. seems a few have had this too.

I would say nothing to stress about but if it persists then just touch base with your care provider, mine just went away, but would return every now and then

    and Congratulations

I have right shoulder pain while pregnant. Mine is from my gallbladder which acts up when i am pregnant. It can cause pain under your right rib and your shoulder.
