For things like school jumpers and rugby tops for primary school ( both are compulsory and in school colours) do you get the a size too big or in your childs actual size.
My parents always got ours ' to grow in to' and I only remember getting 1 new jumper in grade 4 I think
Is there any way you can have a look at them and see what the sizings are like? You don't want to buy the next size up only to find it swims on him. I have been able to get 2 years out of the kids school jumpers before they need the larger size, they were stubbies brand if that helps.
I always go up a size in jumpers and shirts and like Jennifer said, you'll get a couple of years out of them. Kids don't grow as rapidly as they do between ages newborn and 4 until they are teenagers.
DD is very tiny, her size 6 tops from prep still fit her, she's in grade 2 now. DS started school in a size 8 and they fitted him until grade 2 or 3 as well.
Thanks guys. Yes we can see them and try on if we like. DS is a nightmare for trying on clothes though it took ( and I'm not exaggerating) three attempts over 90 minutes wih two meltdowns to get him to try on the suit for my brothers wedding ( he was in the bridal party)
Bigger than she needs, but can't rely on the numbers.
I have DD#1 mostly in size 10 clothes as she is quite tall, but her school uniform dress is a size FIVE and swims on her.
Uniforms at our school aren't cheap so I have her in 3 tshirts, a secondhand rugby top ($60 new!!), the one dress ($75!!!) and for everything else I get $10 tracky pants and windcheaters at Target, noone seems to notice I am saving $50 by getting a navy jumper that doesn't have navy embroidery with the school name on it.
wow I am going to have to start thinking about uniforms for dd for next year. she is small for her age and skinny too so I am a bit worried they wont have a uniform small enough to fit her and I will have to buy it big and get my mum to take it in and up lol
My girls are tall for their ages & I had to get different sizes. The shirts are big, so I got DD1 an 8, which might even fit the year after next (she's in 9's normally) & DD2 a 4, even though everything else is a 6 on her. With the jumpers I got them the 10 & 6, coz they are smaller sizes.
Confusing, but I'd at least get them a size bigger than fits now iykwim.
I usually buy up one size for my kids. DS also gets DD's hand-me-down jumpers and shirts, as they are unisex. Kids don't mind if things are a little large - I find it's when they're too small that it irritates them.
Oh I wish I could get generic stuff bit ts all made specially for the school and if they really want to the school can provide the correct uniform ( on the day) to the child and bill us for it eek!
I will contact the PFA about second hand though that's a good idea
hun
you will find that polo tops etc get sooo grubby that you will need to replace them at least after 2 years!!! So i wouldnt go crazy with bigger sizes there- but jumpers i would go up a size and pants- well they will get trashed if they are too big as well- cuffs will be shredded so maybe a little bigger but not much
ooh its soo exciting
