I don't make my own but I do use soap nuts which are natural and pretty cheap although you usually need to buy them online. You can also get fairtrade ones.
Does anyone do this? What do you make it out of & does it clean your nappies well? I use mostly BBH / sometimes CT with my 2 boys full time and seriously considering trying to make my own washing powder if it's possible.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated![]()

I usually just use bicarb (about 2tblspns) on my nappies. Have been known to use it on clothes too.
No smell if that's what you like, but it's cheap and it works.
Thanks guys. Do you use these in a frontloader? Does that make a difference at all? Bicarb!!! how easy is that??!!
I like them. Although I have heard mixed reports I seem to have converted quite a lot of people so they can't be too bad. LOL. I got mine from Mama Aum but I think Oxfam have fair trade ones which I will try and hunt down next time. They don't have any smell or perfume to them. And seem to be low allergy as DH and a couple of other friends have sensitivities to soap powder but don't to soap nuts.
WL I have a top loader, but I know others that use it in a front loader too.
just found this thread.I have made my own powder using bi carb soda, washing soda, soap flakes and borax. You only need about 1 tablespoon per wash of nappies and two per normal clothes.
