I start this course on the 21st and am wanting to know how people found it that have done it/or are doing it? My plan is to do this course then next year do the uni course a bachelor of social work and major in child protection.
My Questions are, is it worth doing the diploma after?
and this isn't the exact field of work i really really want to do(childcare) but i thought it is going to be good to have this qualification under my belt if i want to be working with kids in the child protection/welfare department in the future,
Did you find it relatively simple to complete?
Any tips etc?
What do you want to for a job? - the cert is what you need to be an assistant. If you intend to be a group leader in childcare at any point, you will have to do the diploma. The bachelor qualification you are thinking of doing - what do you hope to do from this?
If you want to do something like child protection, and don't intend to work in childcare, you could bypass all of the courses including cert 3 and just start the bachelor as you don't get many credits from tafe courses for uni degrees.
You wouldn't get any credits with the Cert III you would have to do the diploma, and you would want to check with the Uni because they aren't related courses. What about doing Cert IV in Youth Work it is related to child protection and its and area you are interested in.
no, i no i wouldnt get credits, this is more just my interest, i want to become a social worker and specialise in child protection, i cant do the bachelor of social work at uni as i havent got a high enough uai, so im doing this as im interested in it and to get back into study i love kids always have and so if this helps me with getting work even if it is childcare for now so be it untill i can do my bachelor of social work in uni. does that make sense. thanks for the help and anyone who has done the course that could help me with some more questions would be great
um this is tricky as neither the diploma or Cert will give you credit for your course, but if it is of an interest base and to help achieve entry this i guess it could be worth it.
Some tafes are fast tracking the cert and Diploma as per the new regs that will come into effect (are you in VIC? i dont know about other states)
In the UK the training is very very different, so i cant give to many comments on the courses here, other than i taught Cert III a few years ago here in AUS but left due to not agreeing with standards being met (another story).
if it is somthing that interest you then i say go for it, people are able to achieve well when doing somthing that is of interest. It may not take you as long as you think.
You can also contact the Uni you intend to enrol in for the degree and ask a CA what they think will work best for you.
GL and i look forward to seeing what you end up doing.
working in children's services is ver rewarding, challenging and when in the position you hope to be can also be emotion, i wish you the very best
