    dont think so.
mainly due to the amount of practical involved,
i knwo we had 3 classes or prac bases lessons each week then 12 weeks a year on placement.
though in saying that i was only on campus for 14 hours a week (2 days) as all our lectures were pod casted after they were done and all our lecture notes were available the day beofre the lecture online..

UniSA offer an External Midwifery or Nursing course.

Midwifery is quite difficult to get into but if you started your Nursing externally, completed the 1st Year and then applied for a transfer I think you'd get in.

I forgot too add...I **think** Griffith Uni also offers there Midwifery externally too. They only brought in the Bachelor this year though. Again I think the competition to get in is high.

Def University of South Australia. I'd recommend having a chat to them before enrolling though - I understand that you currently have to attend all your placements in SA but could be wrong. When I did nursing with them via distance ed (a while ago now), I could do all my placements in Vic. Oh, the do both Mid and Nursing via distance ed. There is some on campus requirements (for workshops so a block of time - usually about a week).

    Good luck!

UniSA no longer offer midwifery externally, no Uni's do as far as I know (for out-of-staters atleast) due to constraints on practicals and follow throughs.

Open Universities does run an external nursing course in conjunction with UniSA and you do all your practicals in your home state with only maybe 1 or 2x in the 2nd and 3rd year where you have to go to Adelaide to do labs.

Shell, your best bet is to talk with the university you are interested in. FWIW, UniSA does allow you to study part time via distance education but there will be on campus workshops and clinicals associated with some subjects. You can apply direct to UniSA or go through Open Universities Australia.

    Really???

    When did you hear this?

Because I got into the UniSA External Midwifery to start this year when I wasnt sure if I was moving back to Brissy or not and was going to be doing it externally from Townsville.

Also, they were happy for me to do my placement at the Townsville Hospital but I had to organise it myself. Also, you do have to go down for a week of workshops 2 time a year.

Considering all the contradicting information, its probably best to call UniSA or SATAC (South Aust. Tertiary Admission Centre) yourself and have a chat to someone.

It all really depends on which your wishing to study. Midwifery or Nursing. Midwifery is the tough one but many Uni's offer Nursing externally.

    Good luck!
