So over the last 6months or so I've been applying and waiting for a place i can afford to move into with DD.. so far I've applied for 4 places and haven't gotten them.
Ive recently found a 2 bedroom unit close to town and my support network which is great its $260 a week and have put my application in on Wednesday!(should i know soon?) i really don't want to get my hope us this time.. i really need this so if everyone could cross their fingers or pray or something.. i'm finding its getting really difficult living at home at the moment and i can't be the mother or person i want to be .. i just want my own place.. i know its not going to be easy! we just need our own space me and dd are sharing a small bedroom at the moment and she needs her own room as do i!
A quick question to, whats the cheapest/best electricity provider and how much roughly does it cost to connect electricity to a new place etc? and being on the single parenting paymeny (pension) can you get it any cheaper?
thanks guys xx

In regards to electricity, you can get a discount on your winter bills with your pension card. You can also go on a fortnightly payment plan through the provider which you can either have direct debited or bpay. You can even have it taken out of your Centrelink payments, I think that's called Centrepay. Connection could be free seeing as you have a pension card too. No idea on companies though. I'm with TRU Energy and have never had any issues. Maybe shop around for the best deal, you might even be able to bargain with them
No idea about electricity, but as far as I remember it is about $80 to get connected (not sure if it is the same in all states though) and you might be able to get it cheaper on the pension, worth a try to ask.
had a look at the department of housing and they have bond assistance which will be great as i only really have enough for the bond n rent for the first 2 weeks and a few extra for little bits and peices i'll need if i get it so its going to be pretty tight for awhile but i'm hoping electricity wont be too much *fingers crossed* hate this waiting whether i have it or not
**positive acceptance vibes** yeah I was going to suggest that the Department of Housing in QLD should be able to help with Bond so that you could use those $$ for electricity connection fees etc... Have you tried your local charities to see if there is anything they can help you with?
If your on a pension, the Housing Place in your state *should* cover you entire bond, the only way you have to pay for the bond is if when you damage the propety nd the RE take itout of your bond when you leave.
I got very cheap connectiong with elect and also discounts each quater on the bill, just tell them when you sign up you have pension card. You also get a telephone allowance (but you prob already get that now)
I found that I always mentioned my pension card, you will be amazed who discounts. (some shops even so pension shopping days here where you recieve 5% off)
Ooh I hope you get it!! As to the DHS Bond Assistance, DF and I got this. I assume it's similar in every state. Basically we simply applied with all the paperwork we needed (Centrelink forms, bank statements etc), and they process it and let you know if you're elligable...I think it was within 5 working days. There should be info on their website about how much bond you can receive, there was on the Vic site. Then they'll write the check, you pick it up and give it to the RE. If any bond needs to come out, you'll have to pay it back to the DHS, not the RE. DF found it a huge help, as the lease was terminated on the sharehouse we were in and we only had 27 days to get $2080 together (bond and first months rent) so the bond check really helped with that expense. I'll have everything crossed for you and your DD that you get this place!
