    4 year old snoring....

so my DD snores really bad in her sleep. to the point where if she is another room, we can still hear her. she has always snored...

when she was born, when she was 1 day old, she went into respiratory distress and was rushed off to the NICU for 3 days. we think she inhaled some milk into her lungs and then couldn't bring it up again. when she was 18 months roughly (can't really remember, maybe 12 months?) she got bronchitis really bad and was in hospital for a day where they diagnosed her with asthma.

so.....im wondering what to do about the snoring...she has kind of always had breathing issues of some kind, im starting to worry about things like sleep apnea. hubby went into bed with her last night for a little bit coz she woke up crying. when he came back up, he said she was sooooo loud! im pretty sure snoring is in the family on hubby's side, i vageuly remember MIL telling me one time that one of the kids had to have their adnoids removed when they were a kid coz they snored really bad.

she has her immunisation needles when she turns 4, which is in about 2 weeks, so i think i'm going to bring it up with the doctor then. i'm just wondering what might happen? what they might do, if anything? i think it does need to be looked at, coz if you really listen to her breathing, it does sound like she's making a lot of effort to get air in....has anyone been through similar issues?? etc. thanks!

I remember looking after a boy who would snore at childcare. I know his mum was also concerned. I would get it checked out ( don't quote me) I think I recall this may have something to do with checking for sleep apnea.

Is she having broken sleep or waking herself from it?

hi,one of my dd was a really loud snorer, her tonsils were enlarged, she had them out as well as her adanoids, surgeon said if her tonsils were enlarged her adanoids would probably be also.she was nearly 5 when she had them out & hasn't snored a night since, she is now 18. snoring, wasn't a problem for us,but for medical reasons specialist wanted her to have the operation

I would suggest getting him checked out as maybe he needs tonsils and adenoids removed.

A friends 4 yr old has snored for a long time but recently when he was sick she realised he had periods of apnea, ENT doctor took tonsils and adenoids out very quickly as said they were very large. No snoring now and night breathing 100%.

thanks guys, yeh i just think it's something i should get checked out. especially for sleep apnea. no she never wakes herself up, Loula, at least not that i know of, but it's hard listening to her try to breathe through the snoring, you know? like i said above, one of hubby's brothers or sisters had their adnoids removed when they were a kid, not sure which one, so i know it's in the family....

Yep I ditto all of the above - tonsils and adenoids. I snored horribly as a child apparently, until I had then taken out just after I turned 5. I have a very clear memory of it all, it wasn't very painful or scary by any means.
