    Do I take the promotion?

As of this afternoon I have a promotion sitting on the table with a week to decide on whether to stay in my current role or advance to team leader. I have spoken to hubby and he is all for the promotion, I will be getting about $7,000 more a year but with more responsibility, and the same hours. But in the back of my mind I am thinking about falling pregnant! If our TTC attempts are successful will I be letting my employer down?
Any advice, its such a great option for my career!!! But having a baby is so important to hubby and I!

    Hmm...

    Tough one.

My advice would be at this point, don't mix work and home life. If you get preggy, you have done nothing wrong by your employer and owe them nothing. Your home life and your TTC is none of their business...they offered the promotion on your work efforts and that alone.

And if you do get preggy and they say you let them down and make you feel guilty, then they are not worth working for, no mater how much money you get!

So much could happen between now and when you actually fall pregnant and even then to when you actually need to tell them.

I would definitely take it !

I agree with angelaartstudent. Your home life and TTC have nothing to do with the promotion, you were offered that on merit. I would be taking the promotion. I hope you are lucky and your ttc journey is very short but one thing I learnt during mine was that you can't let the rest of your life pass you by.

Congrats on the promotion by the way!!!

I agree with the other ladies. TTC is a journey that can't be predicted, could be short but can unfortunately be a relatively long one so don't base your choice on that.

    Congratulations on the promotion!

I was offered a promotion even though my employers knew that I was TTC (well I hadn't exactly told them, but there was a reason for them to believe that was the case).

Also if they think that highly of you, it is easier to negotiate more flexible working hours when you go back to work after having a baby if that is what you choose to do.

    :whattheysaid:
You were offered the promotion on merit. Every employer employs knowing their legal obligations around leave etc, and the offer was made by them with that understanding.

One of the key tasks for a TL is to develop team members to their full potential. So you'll have a year to train your team, and develop someone you can trust to manage the team while you're away. Plus your pay while you're on Mat Leave will be higher, which gives you more options.

So congrats on the new job!
