    Awake time?

Just wondering how long your newborn is awake for at a time? I think I recall one nurse saying that a NB shouldn't be awake for any longer than 1 hour at a time?? But our bub seems to be awake for a couple of hours in the morning (not sure how long exactly) and a couple of hours at night and then obviously awake for feeds and nappy changes in between but those 2 times of longer awake time seem to be much longer than 1 hour, maybe even 3? he's not fussy or crying, just alert and loving interacting.

Our DD was able to stay awake for 1.5 hours and this has stretched to 2 hours since she has gotten older. Unless he's tired then I'd say go with it!

Thanks Sue. DS does seem to be happy but I can't help wondering if I should be trying to put him down to go to sleep KWIM? Or maybe I am missing his tired signs? I don't know?? Sometimes I do know he is tired and it takes a while to get him to sleep even though he isn't crying I then I think that maybe I did leave it too long.

It's so hard to judge hey? I have a baby who shows tired signs for less than 3 minutes. There is no build up - she is happy playing and then BANG, tired and cranky.

Some days I just despair at her!

I was never able to pick DD's tired signs, so I always missed it and had a bub melting down cause she was overtired. Then one of the wise Mums in my baby buddies group said she was going through the same, and she just worked on putting bub back down an hour and a half after they woke, naturally with feeds/nappies etc in between. I tried it and hey presto it worked, our probs were sorted. But with that said, it worked for us (most of the time) might not work with everyone.

DD is only just now stretching to 2hrs, but I will admit I've got to know her alot better and can see the tired signs more easily now. Well most of the time
