    I am feeling awful...

DD is on BLS ,she is doing great..

She has had Jatz before ,likes to have a suck and nibble ,not all the time .but never any problem.

I know it isn't my fault , but last night DF and i were driving to get dinner ,DD was in the back nibbling on a biccy, we both kept watching her in the mirror ( we both have one above us) we looked at her every couple of seconds.

I looked up and her face was red, she was struggling to do anything,no coughing no gagging nothing..She was choking..

We were on a busy road cars everywhere i screamed 'she is choking' pulled off my seat belt and jumped to get to her,Df pulled on the breaks and pulled over,I fell backwards ,he didnt know i had taken my belt off, and smashed against the front,i didn't care about anything but Hannah.

I grabbed at her to get her out of her belt and as i was doing it she started to cough and she must have dislodged the what she was choking on!..Her face calmed down and she was ok again.

I burst into tears i was shaking ,i felt like i was in another world, was not anywhere ifkwim...

I know it was not my fault , but i am a wreak over it , i am so scared so upset,i just cant believe it happened! Choking is what i have been so worried about and it happened, i just don't know what i would have done if she kept choking if she didn't breathe ....
Just needed to get it out ,thanks for listening xx

Oh my gosh how scary for you!!!! I would have reacted the same too!

FWIW, I gave DD (20mths) a piece if carrot while I was making dinner the other day, as she started gnawing at it I thought to myself "I think I read somewhere that raw carrot is a choking hazard" and pretty much right then same thing as your DD - face went red, went quiet, she was choking.

    Scariest moment of my life.

how scary for you. Glad she was ok though, they generally are pretty good at getting things unstuck.

DD choked on a piece of rockmelon when she was about 10 months old..so scary. I don't think I've ever whipped her out of the high chair that fast! Just as I was about to put her upside down on my knee she coughed it up.

That sounds very scary, glad everyone is okay now. It is TOTALLY not your fault...just one of those things!

Choking is many peoples biggest fears, for good reason.
A basic first aid course could really help reduce the fear, I know it did for my Dad when he looked after DD a lot.
Once you know that you can deal with it, its still scary but so much less so, and more than anything else you can learn in first aid the tips on choking (which are basically sharp thrusts with an open hand between the shoulder blades but much easier to see than to read IYKWIM) could absolutely save a life.

oh babe you will have a few more of those yet . jazz are a very hard biscuit too maybe switch to softer ones, I remember Romone choking on one too.... Then we avoided them....

It's a crazy horrible thing to happen but you were watching, so she's fine, and now when he happens next time hopefully it won't scare you as much.

I was terrified of ds suffocating ( as you would be ) and I put him on the bed at one month old, and turned away to get out some clothes, when I turned around he was face down, muffling to himself unable to breath. It scared the crap out of me and I have barely taken my eyes off the little terror since. ( we did however have a roll off the couch, watch out for that one too, we ended up in hospital... bad mummy)

Very very scary glad she is okay, and you too. Maybe a teething ring for the car when she's not within close reach to you and crackers when she is?

Those mirrors are great aren't they!
