Who actually eats their 3 and 5 serves a day??

I have been making a really conscious effort to eat a good (high iron) diet the last few weeks and as a result have been eating my 3 serves or fruit and 5 serves of veggies every day ..... and i feel great!!

It made me wonder....who actually eats that much fruit and veg every day??

I do try to, and I'm conscious of my diet, though lately I have been failing miserably! I try to feed the kids a propper diet!!

I thought it was 2 and 5? Wow I must of been short changing myself.. LOL

Most days I have 2-3 pieces of fruit, maybe not the WHOLE fruit, but at least half of it.

We're vegetarian, so we would definitely have the 5 serves of vegies required every day.

My main problem is drinking enough water.. LOL

I was pre and during pg. But now I struggle. I only have max two fruit and sometimes only two veg at the moment. I did feel much better when I was getting more F&V and this thread has reminded me to do it!

    Thanks

I easily surpass 5 vegetable serves each day but usually only eat 0-1 serves of fruit. I've been trying to make more of an effort to eat fruit when DD does but I'm just not big on it.

Veges - easily. Fruit - not so well, it depends on the day. I would rather eat veges than fruit most of the time but coming into summer with the mangoes and other nice tropical fruits in season, I can make up a fruit salad and eat enough fruit easily

    Yeah I was thinking 2 and 5?

Generally yes, I do 2 fruit and 5 veg. I won't say everyday but pretty often. I just follow the principles of the CSIRO eating plan and that has all the fruit and veg bases covered so I don't really have to think about it.

Not even close. If I ate that much each day 1) I'd have no money for anything else and 2) I'd be sick from trying to force myself to each so much food.

They need to come up with a serving size that actually correlates to the size of the eater, not just a one-size-fits-all approach.

i agree with it being abit exxy sometimes!!! Im the opposite though, i could easily eat 5+ serves of fruit but struggle with the veggies unless i make an effort! all ive eaten today is sweet corn!

Seriously? I find eating fruit and vegies SOOOO cheap compared to eating other processed stuff. I shop at a farmer's market, and only eat what's in season. For $30 per week, DH and I are both getting at least 2 and 5, and probably more like 3 and 7 a day.

Yes on the veg, no on the fruit, but DS loves his fruit so it's more like 5 & 5!

Not sure how the cost thing works for you KM, as whenever I'm on a strict budget I cut out meat & go vego, way cheaper. Of course, that's assuming that you eat what's in season cause it's way to exxy to eat stuff out of season on a whim.

5 and 7. Wowsers. I could do the 7, I often do that before it's even 2pm, but the 5 fruit might be a stretch!

Great thread. I would get my RDI and I'd say even more on the veg side of things as we have either salad or veg with lunch and dinner and each time it'd be like 3 serves I think. I also have loads of fruit so I'm never worried about getting enough. It's so good you are feeling the difference beckoes, I feel like crap if I go a day or two without enough fruit & veg or enough water.

Audax I agree with the cost thing, farmers markets or fruit & veg stores are the way to go, not supermarkets.
