Please help - crinone question and fear of miscarriage
Hello ladies,
Well I've recently completed my first ICSI cycle and got a strong BFP at 11dp3det (yesterday). I was so exited yesterday...
But, I now have 2 worries that i just can't seem to find definitive answers for, which I'm hoping I will gain from all of you lovely ladies.
Firstly, my clinic is having me stop crinone cold turkey after the 15 days of taking it (2 days time) and I am curious as to how they can be so sure that my body will take over when I stop the crinone. I was even thinking of somehow getting my hands on some natural progesterone supplements. Any thoughts on this? should i bother or am I right to be concerned?
Also last night my friends 2 year old son sat on my lap and tried to get in really close so he kinda jumped into my lower abdomen with his bum and I got sharp pains right after, a few minutes later I got period like pains, but I haven't bled or anything. Now I'm extremely paranoid that this has caused damage/impending miscarriage due to the pain I felt from it - and today my breasts have practically stopped hurting as well.
My 'official' hpt is to be done tomorrow as requested by my clinic, and I'm so sure it will be fainter
bfp, or a bfn because I'm convinced I've lost my pregnancy
Please help, i feel so desperate right now for answers, i would really appreciate any input.
I don't know about the hormone stuff, but I wouldn't worry about the toddler jumping on your belly. My DD has treated my pregnant belly as her personal trampoline for some time now, and the baby kicks along in response.
its hard, but now is the time to trust in the process and believe everything will work out ok. Its a hard process, but so important for all us parents...because now you have a great big unknown nestled inside you...another life...and we really cannot control what they decide to do.
Thanks for the reassurance Arcadia, God knows i need it! I think I'm so paranoid because it's been a long roller-coaster journey to this point so i don't want anything to go wrong.
After all you've been through I can understand you must be feeling worried. I think Arcadia is right about the toddler though, your baby is still very very small and it is unlikely that it would have been affected, but I can still understand your worry. I bled everytime I went to the toilet (bowel movement) and after BD (sorry if thats tmi) and it freaked me out every time but everything was fine.
I'm not sure about the crinone, I was usually on it for at least 10-12 weeks, but I think it might be best to talk to your nurses about your concerns when they ring with your test results tomorrow. Best of luck for a strong BFP tomorrow and congratulations!!!
I hope there's someone out there that has taken crinone the way i am supposed to take it with everything working out well. I'm sure there are... seeing as my clinic is.
Hi Elzi,
Congratulations !!! I took progesterone all the way till 13 weeks for one reason only and that was because I have had a previous bleeding. At 13 weeks that is when the placenta takes over and produces the hormones required. I said to my high risk obst that I would like to take it all the way as it had worked so well and he pointed out that it would be useless to take it till fullterm and true to his words as soon as I took it for the complete 13 weeks thou.
Good luck!!
This was a stim cycle, yes? They obivoulsy feel your ovaries will produce enough progesterone without the crinone.
On my successful stim cycle I had some progesterone support in the luteal phase (pessaries) which I stopped after my BT. All was fine.
I had to take progesterone and other stuff for longer with my last cycle because that was an HRT cycle so all hormones were replaced until the placenta took over.
Anyway, it sounds fine and normal to stop. They'll be doing follow up blood tests I presume to ensure that your progesterone and other hormone levels are right. Some women need to take more or for longer, but usually not with this sort of cycle (as I understand it)
Cramping is very normal in early pregnancy, it can be quite painful and feel like your period is coming on. Let you clinic know if you have any worries and they should be able to reassure you.
Thanks minky
Marcellus you helped me put my heart at ease a little more with the crinone issue.
But ladies now I'm REALLY stressing... i took the hpt this morning that was given to me by the clinic and the positive line was a lot lighter than with the first response test i did 2 days ago. I realise it's probably a sensitivity issue but now i'm in panic mode. Are the clinic tests as sensitive as the ept you can get these days? if so then this is a very sad day for me I will get another pack of FR today and see what happens... any thoughts on this?
I'm just going to tell you what my ivf nurse told me. "It may not be perfect but there are many people who have these results and end up with a healthy baby".
In my case I had blood test hcg numbers that were consistently lower than expected and not rising as they would have liked - but bub turned out OK.
I also want to point out that all the hormones running around after a cycle, combined with crinone, make you loopy and less able to cope with stress - which is annoying because it is a stressful time.
Really make an effort to look after yourself over the next few weeks - exercise, eat well, see lots of your friends, and so on.
Good luck.
It was nice to hear good things from someone who stopped crinone early too, thanks grub17
Marcellus problem is the Westmead fertility centre don't do any blood work for progesterone levels or beta! I think that is so dodgy, but then again its quite cheap and it did the job (quality where it counts). So now I have to go and convince my gp to give me referrals for 2 betas to ensure levels are rising and to check progesterone so he can prescribe supplementation if needed. Jeez...
Hi ladies,
Just wanted to let you all know that I've had a successful 1st ivf cycle and am now 7 weeks preggers! It truly was and still is a shock to me.
Duo now I can safely say that all the concerns I raised in this thread originally were shut down by my
So anyone who may come across concerned about the same things I say... don't be! Xx
All the best everyone.
