    Allergy testing

My little 15 month DS is having pr!ck allergy testing done this afternoon. He reacts to eggs and his reactions are getting worse so we need to have him looked at, better safe than sorry.
I'm just really nervous about what is going to happen and if he is going to hurt him. I am lucky that the paed doing it I work with and trust him but still I am nervous/worried. What happens if he has a major reaction? I couldn't sleep last night because I kept dreaming that he has an anapyhlatic (sp?) reaction and ends up in a full resuscitation.
Has anyone had this done? What can I expect? Is it going to affect him all day? Should be be expecting a bad night?

Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to be prepared.

    TIA.

Is it just the skin pr!ck test or is it a food challenge?
The skin pr!ck test probably looks worse than it is, DD1 SCREAMED the place down with hers but DD2 didn't even cry when she had hers done.
The reaction is local for the skin pr!ck and did not affect DD2 or her anaphylaxis, we saw the paed upstairs and went downstairs to another dept for them to do the skin pr!ck.

DD1 had a food challenge where they gave her small amounts of egg mixed with apple puree which she passed as she had grown out of her allergy, they watch the children VERY carefully and have everything they need on hand should a reaction occur.

I've had it done but then again I wasn't as young as your DS. And was probably testing for different things. with me they basically drew up a table on my arm into like squares and then put drops of different allergens, eg. grass, animals, dustmites etc. in the different squares then got this little needle and pr!cked each one. Couldn't feel that though. Then they covered it up and waited, then measured the results. I reacted quite badly to grass (it was seriously itchy!)but they just put some antihistamine cream on it. So what they will do for your DS might be a bit different, and at least they are testing him in an environment where they can intervene so I guess best to find out now then when he's at home IYKWIM.

though, it's always the unknown that causes the worrying. HOpe he goes ok!

Babe the amount they use is minute and you will be in good hands if he reacts but I don't think he will. For J's one they do the tiniest little *****s on their back, then they use a droplet thing and put ONE tiny drop on each little *****. Then you wait. James has a significant egg allergy but not anaphylactic and his egg white came up around the size of a 20c peice and his yolk was around 10c sized. Good luck babe and I'm sure he will be fine. xoxoxox

Sorry i should have added as per EM that they will do it on your DS's back, DD2 had over 8 of them on her back and reacted to 3. without any affect other than to the 'local' area of the pr!ck.
