Hi Ladies,
I have just been talking to the Director of the Childcare centre where I wish to send Ethan and they are unsure of what the regulations are governing the storage of MCN's after they're been removed... I have proposed that I provide a sealable bucket but they are unsure whether this will have to be lept in the laundry or if it can be kept in the same place that the bin for disposables are kept which is in the room until it's emptied. They are being very helpful and we are all trying to find out information so as not to break any Health and Safety Regulations.. Any help from anyone who has their child in childcare with MCN's or who works in the industry would be greatly appreciated..
I just brought in a little pedestal bin, so they can just drop the dirty ones in, then I take it home and empty/clean.
It sits next to the toilet in the little change area there.
My son goes to family day care with MCNs and I send wetbags for hisdirty nappies. His carer jsut puts them in there in the bigger bag with the rest of his nappies andit sits in the bathroom for the day.
As for MCNs at a child care centre I've sadly not used them (I work in early childhood) but i can't see how keeping them with the disposable nappies would be a problem- it's all just poo covered nappies.
I use a wet bag for DD, although she is almost TT'd now, so I only send a small one and a single nappy for her day sleep which is coming back dry anyway
But prior to that it would be one wetbag for the day, so much easier than a bucket, which I offered to do but they were happy with the wetbag
I send DS2 in pockets, and apart from them initally saying I had to send plastic covers (when I showed them the PUL inside the pockets they were OK with that), childcare have been great with MCN's. They asked me to provide a lidded bucket & they keep it in the big sink on the nappy change bench (built in laundry sink for washing the really dirty kids). I bought a massive wet bag especially for CC, but they wanted the bucket due to Keeping Healthy in Childcare regs (the ones that say plastic pants)

: Wet bag regret!
QLDers really like sealable containers, for whatever reason. They can be kept in the same area as where disposables are kept - there's actually not much in the regs about it, but one place I worked used cloth and this is exactly what they did, with no problems. It's in Brissy. Get them to contact their OECEC rep and get some advice if they're unsure - I always found they were really helpful with that, and then you can't get in trouble if the advice came out of their mouth in the first place.
We just treat it like soiled clothing, and use a bucket with a lid, and keep it in the room. As with soiled cloths, we bag it and put it in the bucket. For kids in cloth full-time (not toilet training or using disposables) it'd be easier if they had heir own bucket because then the parents would just take the whole bucket and not have to dig through soiled clothing to find all the nappies. Liners also make it easier if you have carers who will bin the liner, or flush a flushable liner.
Thanks for all your help Ladies.. I have been talking to the Director again and she is keen to get a workable systen in place. I have bought a 10 litre bucket with sealable lid that I will mark as "Ethan's dirty nappies" and i'll just take the whole bucket at the end of the day if that is ok with them... From what I have found it should be alright for the bucket to stay in the room in the toilet area so I think that once we get under way this woman will wonder what all the fuss was about but she needs to give it a go before freaking out...
