WHY is LOA so much better than ROA?

I've just enjoyed 9 days of blissful comfort while baby was LOA. Overnight, it seems to have shifted back to the right, and now I am really uncomfortable. I know what I have to do to try and shift it back, and I am doing it all like a woman possessed, but just wondering if there's a reason that it's more comfy when bubs is over on the left?

From what I understand, LOA is just easier for bub to come out. Not sure why - maybe look up on Spinning Babies. The main thing is the "OA" part.

LOA is the way baby *should*come out so their head should fit better in your pelvis when they are there- and perhaps that is why it's more comfy. I found it SUPER uncomfy when my baby was in ROA too. They were only there for a little bit while turning from posterior to anterior but jeepers it was uncomfy! Hope your baby moves soon.

I *think* the theory is that they turn a certain way, so it's easier for them to rotate into OA to move down through the pelvix from LOA... not sure

yeah it's all about the turning! Marta was ROA and i was a *bit* concerned and read spinning babies and tried to move her but she was too comfy lol. birth was awesome, so i dont think it's too much of a biggie

I'm not worried too much about it, but I am blown away by the difference in comfort levels! Can't get over it - I can barely sit in the car when baby's on the right, or anywhere else for that matter, except my gym ball, or on my knees.

DH reckons it's because women are missing a rib. Seriously.

I was told the same as Marcellus at a birthing class i did. a baby will rotate clockwise from loa as it goes down through the pelvis, if it's on the Roa position it has to rotate much further and is more likely to be a posterior labour. I have no idea why it's more uncomfortable for you now though, maybe bubs has it's elbows sticking out.

I *think* I have heard that it's because your liver comes down on your right hand side. This pushes the baby out more and tends to make them rotate to posterior rather than anterior. Although as long as anterior, should be ok. I found out that last time DD was ROT (transverse head), which eventually made her rotate to posterior during labour. Would have been good for someone to have made some suggestions about positioning, etc to help me along....

A-ha! Liver! Makes perfect sense! The bum in my ribs is one thousand times more annoying when it's on the right than on the left. Good one starry star!

And, junglemum, believe it or not, DH is a scientist. Obviously not the anatomical kind.

No idea so will just agree with everyone else as a cover for stalking you! Had a sudden scary thought that you were actually due October 28!!

Your DH can't really be serious can he? Hope your bub (was SO about to say he (!)) moves back so you can get comfy soon. I was absolutely obsessed with positioning with DS, but for some reason everything i knew about it (and everything else i ever knew) completely disappeared as soon as he was born
