What do you need to know CQ?

It is a relatively simple exploratory procedure of the hip, bone and surrounding tissue. There is minimal risk of infection as it is a small incision and it also quite quick. You will be under anesthetic and (depending on your hospitals policy) be required to stay overnight..

Thank you! I'm not worried about the surgery itself, more worried about the recovery time. I teach aerobics classes so really, how long i'd have to have off work.

Also if there are any other options? I have a Labral tear.

Thanks for the quick reply x

Thanks, i'm more worried about getting back to work than just being mobile...everywhere I read says athletes and sports people 8-12 weeks. One article said 16 weeks!

    CQ - STOP GOOGLING!!!!!!!!!

The hard thing about recovery times, especially for your procedure, is that it largely depends on the following factors:

    1) what they find when they are inside
    2) how well YOUR body recovers
    3) how well you follow the post op instructions

Remember, everyone is a little bit different and the recovery time will vary for everyone. The best advice I can give you is to go to the consultation with the orthopedic surgeons and chat to them about your concerns. They will be able to give you a much more accurate estimate of recovery time for you. You will be given rehab exercises which they will explain to you. Most hospitals will make you stay in over night for a hip. Knees are almost always a day case and often a shoulder. But I've never seen a hip as a day case and we are a big orthopedic hospital. The expected stay is usually only 1 night though.

It sounds like your fit and healthy so thats a major plus...AND your motivated to get better so thats even better.

I totally agree with whats been said here- recovery really does depend on what they find and what future treatment you will require...

yes, but it isn't standard practice where I work...

discuss it with your ortho people and see if they will do it as an elective procedure, gl
