Idea on Activities to do with a 1 year old...?

    Hi girls!

I know that the long awaited days of cooking together, doing paper mache and having craft afternoons aren't quite here yet being that DS has only just turned one, but what sort of activities do you do or have you done with your one year old?

The rain up here at the moment has hampered our morning trips to the park and as I have a bit to do around home over the next month I am looking for some things my DS and I can do at home together, apart from just play with his toys... We've done painting etc but it was a battle to keep it from being eaten haha! Any other ideas? xx

We just play with her toys most of the time, or chase each other (crawling) around the house, she loves that. She also loves playing outside (mainly in the dogs water!), um, she plays with her sister's toy kitchen - and she also joins in with drawing that the other kids do. Too young for play doh or painting yes, but she does fine with a crayon and pencils.

Ohh and chalk too - she likes to draw on the ground with chalk. If he's into painting, you could just take him outside when its sunny and let him paint on the concrete with water - they like that just as much and no mess

Bubbles were and still are a winner inthis house - i know you said it was raining though. Ds at that age loved getting out a few pots and pans and we would hit them with wodden spoons and sing silly songs. Like Mel said, just crawling around and chasing each other is fun for them.

My DS is happiest when he's outside just exploring. Once he was walking he was happy to just be outside wandering around, picking up leaves, grass, etc. That's still one his favourite things to do .

Blocks, reading, i did cooking with DD when she was 1, she would play with the measuring cups etc while i did things and then i would get her hand and get her to help me MIX... she thought it was great fun.. takes a bit more time but they love being included in those kinds of things.

Indoor picnics are good, chalk, crayons

DD1 just loves doing what I am doing. Toys are a waste of money for us. She loves gardening, cleaning (wahoooooooo), putting ni ni's on her bears (dressing them up and putting them to sleep). Reading books is a great one, she helps me make dinner, we chase imaginary flies around the kitchen, draw lots with crayons.

    jumping on the bed
She loves dismantling my plastics cupboard (I have to pick it all back up again, but she likes unstacking the containers and looking at all the lids- especially one from an icecream container that has a cow on it!).
Bit messy, but I have given her a couple of mixing bowls and spoons and put flour in one bowl and a little bit of water in the other (or you could do water/pasta or flour/pasta).
she loves looking at books now too, and chasing balls around the floor.

My DS is 15 months and we read ALOT of books, he loves those lift the flap ones so I encourage him to lift them to peek at what's underneath and turn the pages.
We also play chasings around the house or hide and seek, mostly me hiding but he LOVES finding me!
Moo has his own cupboard that is full of plastic things in the kitchen, he can spend ages taking off the lids and putting containers into other containers.
He likes playing blocks where I stack them all up in a tower and he knocks it down!
We do a lot of nursery rhyme type games like ring-a-ring-a-rosy and clapping games.
When the weather is good he loves walking up and down the verandah or poking around in the garden beds.
We've been to a couple of good play centres that are great for something different!
