My mum always keeps stuff in the roof. If you have mice could you put things into plastic containers?
We have storage space in our roof and i have boxes in the spare room with things that we really don't have the room for at the moment and was wondering if it's safe to store them in the boxes in the roof.
Books & Photo Albums... will mice ruin them? i know we get mice up there and even with traps we still get a couple (were on land).. will they be safe?

I don't really have containers big enough for all the books and stuff and don't really have the $$ to go out and buy some.
What if i wrap the boxes in a plastic bag?
I wouldn't risk it with the books and photo albums. Mice will eat through paper, plastic bags, foil, etc.
Hmmmm i've got nowhere else to put them.. i might set a few traps up there and see if we get anything, if not then i will put the books up there, set traps right around them AND put down some pellets.
I wouldn't put them in just boxes. I put them in plastic tubs. You could also have silver fish or those month things that eat thru paper and such.
Just ask my mum, who had a heap of edin blyton first additions stored at her mums from when she was a kid. Turned to dust!
I wonder if wrapping in glad wrap would be enough to seal them?
The big clear plastic tubs are only about $10-$15 each from Reject Shop/Red Dot/Your Local Cheap Arse Discount Store lol
Maybe do a couple at a time if you can't afford heaps of tubs, that way you will appease DH by getting rid of them as quickly as possible, and you will have peace of mind.
Perhaps chuck a couple of cedar balls in them just in case to deter the moths/silverfish.
DH knows I will never get rid of my books, he has learned to live with it now![]()
Worst part is we can't even spare $10 at the moment, am risking it for now, have just put some in the roof wrapped in plastic bags and thrown HEAPS of rat kill stuff around them, will keep an eye on the though and check for any bite marks, they are pretty well sealed....then when we actually get some $$ i can get some tubs, will make them easier to find and move if we ever need to.
Be careful with the pellets and your dogs...if a mouse eats the pellet and then dies outside and one of your dogs picks it up, it won't be nice. I know a whole lot of "maybe" there, but it's a story I've heard before resulting in a lifetime of vet visits and costly medication.
