    Monsters

DS was 3 in October and has recently started freaking out a bit about monsters. He wants me to go with him to his room to scare them away before he goes in, and at night time (well the other night) woke up trembling asking to go and sleep in my bed (he is currently sleeping in bed with Mum while we are in transit)

Why does this happen to little ones? I remember being about 3 and having that eerie feeling and pulling covers up over my head, and my Mum remembers that feeling to.

Does it happen to everyone's kids? How extreme can it get? DS has a t-shirt with a 'monster' (a cute one) on it which we are putting on him at night to 'scare' the other monsters away. Mum also remembers having to make up a Monster Away Spray for my sister too.

I always made a point of not talking monsters with him, or reading scary books, but when we were in singapore our 'helper' (don't know how good a help that was) played Monster games with him....once it was started, it was too late to even get her to stop....as the seed was planted in DS's head.

What did you do to help with this?

Fairy dust sprinkled around the room at bedtime, and a reminder that monsters are scared of our dogs!

we had this problem a few years ago, my sister and df's sister (both in primary school) started telling our ds's about monsters, we kept telling them they arnt scary, and repetitivly told them they arnt real.i think we let them watch monsters inc? and they saw they wernt scary... not 100% sure tho.
ds1 who is now 5 plays on it when he is told bed, comes out carring on about monsters, but thats now just one of his 1000 bedtime excuses!

NOt sure where they get it, maybe creche because we don't talk about them, but I remind Iz that not all monsters are bad, Cookie monster, Elmo all the monsters on Sesame St are monsters she loves and they are nice and friendly and they will look after her. Works here, it's not nice when they are scared. Mine is scared of the noise the cicadas make right now in case they bite her and we happened to see a live one at MG the other day so were able to get rid of that fear quickly as well. xox
