You could use re-sealable containers instead of bags. Officeworks, of all places, sell a really good pink set, stackable, good size, airtight, 5 for $12.
I don;t go that far ahead, but since little miss, I do prepare vegies at 8am for a 6pm dinner.
Just now, cleaning out my pantry (thanks for the idea from another BB member) I was thinking about how its so hard during the week getting the meals prepared when I usually have 1 or 2 children at my feet, whinging and complaining that they wanted to be picked up.
So.. it got me thinking. I already meal plan - but what if I go that one step further and prepare all the vegies in the one night as well - so put them in little bags and write whats in them, and pop them in the fridge, so all I have to do is grab the bags with what I need and throw it all together at the end of the day...
Apart from the really bad environmental factor of the wastage of the little glad bags - is there anyone out there that actually does this?

Yeah i do thisI use containers ,i chop all my vegies and pop them in the fridge
Sometimes if i have left overs i pop them in the freezer
Stupid question, but if you prepared and cut the vegies a week beforehand and stored them out of water and in the fridge, wouldn't they go brown?
I sometimes chop up extra to freeze, like if I am doing onions or carrots or similar and somehow have spare time, I chop up 1-2 extra to use in the SC or whatever it is. I just throw it in frozen.
I think potato would Leash, pumpkin, onion, carrot, brocolli etc wouldn't
I meant to add I add water to stuff like pumpkin and potatoes and all other stuff is prepped 3 days in advance because the dry climate here makes stuff wilt fast. All the broccoli is trimmed
Carrot and pumpkin goes brown for me! And onions go very dry very quickly! Must be my black thumb touching it when I peel it!
That's why I throw it in frozen and I usually only use frozen stuff in SC meals. I've never noticed it goes brown...![]()
I've often wondered if you can freeze it and if it goes brown. If I could freeze chopped carrots and potatos I'd prepare them and freeze them and just chuck them the water when I'm ready to cook.
(Well, mostly it's Shel these days, but anyway)
It only goes brown if I leave it not cooking. If I'm cooking it it's fine, it's chopping it up and leaving it out of water that I get brown dry vegetables.
i do! sometimes i'll freeze them in those steamer bags so can just throw that in the microwave
I prep alot of my fruit and veg the day we do shopping. It helps DP eat better if it is either shredded, cut or ready to go, and makes life easier when DS wants lunch or dinner and its all only about 5 min from being ready. I use containers for things I put in the fridge and zip lock bags for the freezer to save on space.
I used to do this when mine were babies.
I would use chinese containers or tupperware. You could do it a week before but you'd want to make sure you stored it correctly. The tupperware fridgemates are good for this.
You can chop and freeze onions most definitely. Just like you can make your own grated cheese by grating it all and adding a sprinkling of corn flour to stop it from sticking (or you can snap freeze grated cheese on a tray and then pop in a bag).
When I was time poor because of babies I did a lot of this stuff. We basically lived off slow cooked meals and easy cook meals.
