Aren't they awful! It's very common during pregnancy and yes, they do tend to get worse the further along you are I'd like to say they disappear when your baby arrives but it wasn't the case for me. They were shocking after giving birth (well my midwife thought they were pretty good for a new mum but they felt awful for me) and I had them on and off until DD stopped BF at 11.5 mths! I still get one every so often but they clear up pretty quickly.

    Things that helped me:

    1. A high fibre diet. I used Metamucil daily while pregnant and often twice a day when DD was little.

    2. I used Kleenex flushable wipes for #2's which really helped

    3. After giving birth and for several days afterwards, I wore ice sticks in my maternity pad. Frozen condoms filled with water worked well too!

    4. Lots of water - keep your fluids up

    5. Really comfy undies

A handheld attachment on the bath/shower helped me heaps....bathing them directly with warm water. Apparently omething about the warm water helps...and it did. Just running it over them. If you can bend down far enough to let the shower water flow straight onto them that helps too.

Mind went away not long after I gave birth, but are back for this pregnancy.

Try your darndest to not push too hard on the loo. As for the birth...I am not sure if it's possible to avoid one busting from the pushing...probably down to what position you birth in.

Yay for baby wipe as loo paper...cheaper than the kleenex ones, and are essentially the same thing.

Hey. I got a cream called scheriproct from my dr. Needs a script and it works wonders. I got a little one just recently, applied the cream twice a day for a couple of days and it cleared up. Brilliant. I also take normafibe to help keep me regular. Hope that helps

sorry about your pain! Aren't they horrible?? I got the same cream as Tara and it's brilliant!
The ice condoms give some good comfort- don't forget to 'wrap' them in something cloth and wet (like a chux) so you don't ice burn your bum!
Don't put off going to the loo, it just makes it worse- sometimes putting a little bit of pressure between your bum and your hoo-haa can help
The flushable wipes are a god-send!!!

I didn't have mine during pregnancy, but they came when DS was born. Nurses were quite impressed- Doc considered surgery!!! 6 weeks and they were mostly gone. DS is 4 months now and I still have teeny tiny problems, but all very manageable now.
