what is this pain? i cant take it anymore, who should i go see?
Hi ladies, bit of a sookie bum post but,
when i go to bed and roll from one side to the other i get this god awful pain in my lower back, hips and the ligaments in the front of my belly that run into my groin. its so bad that i nearly end up in tears every time i try and move in bed. by lower back usually cracks a few times when i do it too. it happens when i get up out of bed too and for the first few hours of my day, but once it eases and i get going it doesnt bother me as badly through the day.
every night it seems to be getting worse and this morning when i try walk im in absolute agony.
should i go see a chiro or something? or am i just being a wuss and should suck it up??
any advice very much appreciated
Hey skybie do you have a number for the hosp you can call anytime if you are worried. It just might be because of the extra weight you are carrying but its better to get it checked out than stay putting up with it. Im no doc but would be a good piece of mind to get it looked at just to be sure and Im sure you would want to know whats causing it.
I know with my hosp I have a number for the midwives and i can call them and if they seem worried about what I tell them I can go in for a check up.
You are not being a wuss pregnancy brings on many issues just get it checked hon thats the only advice I can offer
take care sweetie!!!
you've got SPD, I experienced the same pain & I'm sorry to say but it did continue to get worse until the end of pregnancy. Can you get to a physio? There is also a belt you can buy or even hire from the hospital that will hold all your ligaments together. (belly belt I think its called, mine was only $30 to buy)
Try not to walk long distances & try to keep your legs together when getting out of car etc (swing your body instead of one leg out at a time)
A pillow between your legs at night will probably help too & for my last 4-8 weeks (cant remember exactly) I slept on the lounge sitting upright with pillows all around me supporting me, I couldnt lay down at all by that point.
Alot of people say theirs went away straight after birth, I hope it does for you too (mine took 7 weeks after birth)
I really feel sorry for you, its incredibly painful & its the one thing that puts me off having more babies in the future as apparently it gets worse with each subsequent pregnancy.
Sounds like you have an unstable (instable?? sorry my brain isn't working well!) pelvis. Your ligaments and things that hold it all together are probably starting to relax more and loosen with the hormones in your body. I get almost the exact same thing and the doctor has suggested I have SPD and my sciatica and have done so since fairly early on, about 22ish wks. You can go to a chiro, I have heard they can be really good at adjusting things. You can get support belts to help your pelvis stay int he right position. When you roll over in bed try to keep your knees together and roll your body all at once. Accupuncture can help, but make sure if you go to someone like a chiro or accupuncture the have experience in treating pg women. Avoid pushing through any pain. If something hurts, if possible don't do it. Avoid heavy lifting or pushing. Supermarket trolleys can often make your pain worse, I can't push DS int he pram anymore either, he's just too heavy, though it was a good opportunity to teach him how to walk with me! Pelvic floor exercises can help.
Sorry you're going through this. As if the pains and discomfort of late pg aren't enough, this just takes the cake doesn't it???
cakester, thanks hun, im not hugely worried, i had SPD suspicions but ive never had it before so i didnt know it felt like. i have a hospy app on thursday so will speak to my ob then. i'd go in but its sooo dang far away!!!
Breeze hun, ur a gem, posting while you're on the move! its come on all of a sudden, last week i was fine and now this week im in agony and getting worse. will make an appointment with the physio asap. thanks hun
Kaz and lilas, thanks girls, glad to know im not just being a whinger! its really not nice
Skye- I would suss it out at your appointment on Thursday! I have Pelvic Instability which is apparently pretty much the same as SPD, and it sounds like it could be that! It could also just be normal pregnancy pain/ligament pain as bubs sitting on a nerve or something. Bubs should weigh about 2kilos now so understandable to experience some pain. They say pelvic instability/SPD only gets worse, but mine and another girl I know have found the opposite, it's gotten better towards the end, fingers crossed! Ket us know how you get on xxx
Aww honey It sure does sound a lot like SPD to me, but don't be surprised if your OB knows stuff all about it, I've found most OB's and even midwives are a bit clueless about the condition - either a physio or a chiro will be your best friend at this point. Mine is just starting to kick in now, I found in most of my pregnancies that to roll over in bed I have to be supporting both sides of my hips and I kinda flip myself over - like a whale would I imagine!! I've also been known to wake DH up and ask him to roll me over so I can support my pelvis while doing so. Definitely no standing on one leg, keep your knees together as much as you can and support your pelvis with a belt of some type. And ice it of a night time
thanks girls, tried a few local physio's but everythings closed, i assume till tuesday just did my last solo grocery shop, could barely push the trolley to the car in the end....this is so much fun
