I'm about to start my 2nd year of a Bach. of Ed - Primary and start the hands on stuff as well. It's exciting and I can't wait.
I've picked my B. Early Childhood back up (it's technically not education. It was when I applied by they changed the overall structure, I have to do an extra year to be eligible for teacher registration, so either articulate over to B. Ed and do an extra 2 semesters once I've finished the 3 year degree, or do a Grad. Dip once I'm done. But for all intents and purposes it is a 3 year teaching degree without QCT registration).
Anyone else studying education. I'm at USQ at the moment, studying part-time doing 2 subjects a semester, 3 semesters a year. I do my first prac next year (hand on, no, make that THIS year!) and I'm a bit nervous. Being an Early Childhood major I can do it at a kindy or long day care (unfortunately not at the LDC where I work, which is a bugger), which makes it a little less scary as going in to a school (I remember what used to happen to student teachers at school...).
Anyone else studying, or have studied, education at uni? Interested in connecting and being able to have a little network of brains I can pick.
I've submitted my first assignment for the semester a few weeks ago, an essay on the use of Early Learning Records as assessment tools in Prep. At the moment I am trying to write an essay on Reggio Emilia, a 'process drama' lesson plan for a year level between Prep and Year 3, and soon to start a huge assessment essay worth 60%!
I am loving being back at uni after having to take time out to study a Cert III in Children's Services at TAFE (MASSIVE EYE ROLL at the silly people who decided a year studying early childhood teaching at uni doesn't equal a Cert III at TAFE...). Even though I'm planning on doing FDC for (hopefully) the next few years, I've been fortunate enough at work to be placed in the Pre-Prep woom as an assistant with two teachers (well one registered teacher, and a soon-to-be teacher when she completes her prac next semester) who are really mentoring me and helping me make the connections between theory and practice!

I'm doing my second year of Bach Ed Primary too. I have my first prac this year at my kids school which I can't wait to do! I take my hat off to you for doing early childhood though, I love my own little kids, but other peoples little kids can be very full on at that age LOL. I'm doing full time this year and I'm doing summer semester now to get my band 4 passes as you know. I'm at UNE and they are offering a trimester system starting this year I think (or it could be next year), but after doing summer semester of 2 subjects on top of a part time year last year I don't think I'll ever do a trimester of study - it's too full on!
That is super that you are getting on the job mentoring - it should make it easier to make the connections between what you are studying and putting that into practice.
I'm studying a BArts: Education Majors, 3rd yr this yr, I'll have 1 more yr next yr & then my dip Ed. I'm studying Externally![]()
I started a Bachelor Biological Sciences and Molecular Biology, Bachelor Biomedical Science and Bach Forensic Biology Triple in July then took a break becuase of Hyperemisis during this pregnancy. Plan to go back ASAP after baby born. It's internal only though so I'll probaby have to take a smaller unit load per semester. That's at Murdoch.
Have a previous Cert of Speech and Drama from Trinity London, Bachelor of Communications and English Literature (Notre Dame), Cert of Museum Studies (ECU) and Postgraduate Diploma in Technical Communication (Swinburne).
I'll probably stop once I have the Science degrees, unless I find something that really takes my interest for a research qualification.
Wow, thats pretty full on! Are you going to teach any of it angelaartsstudent?
Uh, yeah, I literally have had no life since I was 16 (I left high school early and studied @ the London uni instead). Seriously...no parties, no friends, no life. Just study!
I did seriously consider a DipEd for upper school Literature but since the major Curriculum change I am not sure...maybe Biol once I get the Science degrees but I prefer to be in a lab...I have chosen very anti-social study areas...writing, museums, science, LOL. Plus DH was a teacher yonks ago and is now a uni lecturer in Education, so I might go crazy if I am a teacher married to a teacher :-P
I'm studying my Bach of Education (birth to 5 years) through Charles Sturt. Have 6 subjects to go. I did my work placements last year- 0-2 year olds in LDC and 3-5 year olds in a preschool.
I'm currently doing a PGCE - but it's in senior science, specialising in chemistry.
I am half way through my first year of my B of Ed Primary. I'm studying externally through Curtin Uni. I am really enjoying it, although studying over christmas and the first tri of pregnancy (#2) was not so much fun. I am also amazed at the difference in workload between units, the one I am studying at the moment (assessment for learning) is a nightmare.
The only real downsides are i only get about 1-2 weeks between study periods and we study throughout the year at the moment I am taking 2 units each period and there are 4 periods a year so its a bit full on at times!
Enjoy the journey!
I studied R-7 teaching and just last year finished my Masters in Special Ed (studied which I was working full-time which was a bit hectic!). If you ever want to pick my brains just ask![]()
I've just been accepted to do a Post Grad Dip Ed (Secondary, Visual Arts) next year... full time, on campus, for 1.5 years. Yay! can't wait![]()
At UNE Bath? That is great news!
Congratulations Bath! Very excited for you.
Thanks girlsYep, UNE. And it's kinda why I have popped back here after such a long break! I'm also thinking "eeek what have i done???!"
Another one studying, I'm studying with Curtin Uni also I applied through OUA for B. Early Childhood Education (Birth to five years).
Doing this part time from home with two kids and about to start working some nights soon, so will be very interesting. Had to withdraw from a couple units when we moved so doing two units over the Christmas period, arrggghhhh. But it's worth it to get it done in time for DS2 starting school.
I completed my B.Ed in middle school at Flinders University way back in 2006 and am currently doing some relief work. Mind you, I still feel like a new grad as I worked for a year and then had over 3 years off with my 2 little ones.
I'm thinking of going for my masters in special ed next year, so I'll keep it in mind that you've done yours if I get stuck lol!
Sunny09, the school we are hopefully sending my 2 too uses Reggio Emilio. TBH, I'd never heard of it, but it sounds good.
