A Government Grant you may not know about

I want as many people to know about this grant as it has helped us enormously. If you own your own home and have a concession card you can have two necessary fixtures ie. stove, fridge, heater, hot water service, fixed or replaced. This can be done twice in 10yrs and it is through the Department of Human Services. I was told about this when our hot water service stopped working, it takes time, we are still waiting after 6wks but looks like next week we will have a new one and hot water services take first priority.

    Regards,
    Dianne

Wow, that's excellent! Do you need to own the home outright or can you have a mortgage over it?

I was just about to ask the same thing. Good question.

Wow that sounds like a really good scheme. I've never heard about it. By concession, do you mean HCC or a full pension card?

I'm pretty sure you don't need to own your home outright because the only proof of ownership required is a copy of your rates notice and you can have either Health Care Card or Pension Card. Looking like we will have our brand spanking new hot water service early next week.

Thanks dianne At this stage we don't have a concession card, but we're looking into it and own our home, so this is great.

Dianne, I'm so happy for you! Pity you didn't find out until it broke completely (such a long wait), but oh how you will love those hot showers once you've got your new system in!

Oh Wow! Thankyou Dianne, I will tell my Mum about it. Her Hot Water Service is really dangerous.
How did you come across it, do you have a number??

I have another question, how broken does the thing need to be? Our fridge is really old and the seal is ruined, would that qualify? And to replace, does it need to be really close to the original? Like could we get a bigger fridge?

It's through the Department of Human Services and it's called the Home Wise Grant Scheme ph. 1800658521.
Kaytee I'm really not sure but you can just call them and they would be able to tell you.
Marydean you have no idea how much I am going to enjoy my first shower after boiling pots of water and using the kettle to quarter fill the bath tub. I will be in heaven.

Plumber is installing our new hot water service Monday morning. You really have to chase up DHS yourself though, I was told I would receive a letter this week, never did, so rang again today to be told that I can call the plumber that gave us the original quote. Rang the plumber this morning and the receptionist said she hasn't got any paperwork from DHS so she would ring them and call me back. Just got the call back, and she apologized to me because we would have to wait two days, I said two days is fine we've been without hot water for nearly 8wks, she was shocked. So only 3 more sleeps till I have the best shower in the whole wide world

Either a Health Care card or Pension card from Centrelink.
