    Non Regular Charting

I hav always been irregular and i came off the pill last August but have only had my period twice since. Should i be worried about fertility? Does anyone else have this problem?? i am only 22 but i would like to start TTC in the next couple of months.

    Hi little_O,
You sound exactly like me. I have always had irregular cycles and came off the pill August 2009. My cycles went from 100+ days to 70 days and gradually went down over the year. But they still weren't regular. The thing with TCC is you need to know your cycle and when you ovulate, and that can be very hard if you don't have a regular cycle.
So after 14 months of trying I went to an OB/GYN and now i am taking fertility drugs (clomid) to make me ovulate every month an therefore have a regular cycle. It's far better than having a few chances a year to conceive.
Your cycles may just need some time to regulate themselves, however with a history of irregular cycles I would definitely look into it. If your GP says nothing then maybe get a second opinion. In my experience a lot of GP's aren't very helpful when it comes to fertility.
My advice would be to wait a few months and see if your cycles start to regulate, if they don't then see what your GP says. HTH

    Good luck!

Thanks for that Tasha. Glad to know if not the only one. Did they suggest any natural methods? I've heard chaste tree is good but I don't know anyone that has used it? Do you have to stay on clomid to ttc? Hope it works for you!

    Hi again!

I second Tasha's comments. In the past I've had irregular cycles and fairly long too (after being on the pill for 15+ years!) but they've settled down a bit the last couple of months, I think mainly due to two things - Vitex (chaste tree, which you mentioned) and acupuncture.

Have you thought about charting your cycle to see when you get fertile signs and how your cycles vary? Might be handy - there's lots of free templates you can download or you can join Fertility Friend. Can be good to keep a record to take to your GP down the track if you need to as well. Hard evidence!

Hope things settle down and best of luck with TTC.

Hello! Thanks for all your answers! I had been seeing a naturopath when I was on the pill (I'd only been on for 1 ur) because I was going nuts on it and he gave me chaste tree to combat it, but he took me off it in case I'd get pregnant before I was ready. I was thinking of going back on it but I was worried it could affect pregnancy. Good to hear it doesn't do anything bad!! Maybe i'll run it past my gp when i see her in 2 weeks. Anything else i should ask? Hope you have success!

Should be fine for TTC thiugh I don't think it's recommended for pregnancy.

While TTC I was advised to take it up to ovulation and then stop.

Your GP will probably ask you about your history and might suggest a day 21 blood test to see if you're ovulating, though this is usually a bit down the track.

    Hope that helps.
