Newbook trial that started in 2009, need help

When DS12 was in grade 5 the school participated in the new Netbook trials. His High School isn't accepting the Netbooks they are to use the school's laptops, at the end of last year the Netbooks were wiped of all the school programes and now at home he is unable to use it. Previously when he used it at home he had created another account so that he could access the net on it but now he can't even create an account so it can't be connected to the internet. I'm thinking because it is a 3yr contract that at the end of this year the Netbook would go back to normal. Does anyone know anything about this? TIA.

    Regards,
    Dianne

don't really have much of an idea but maybe the school when they wiped (or re-imaged) the netbook they removed something that was needed to "create" the additional account. You probably need to speak to the primary school to see what the go is and check with regards to how the "contract" works with regard to you "owning" the netbook. I know that here in some SA schools, students are able to purchase their old laptop at the end of Yr 12 but there would be some things that would be wiped from the laptop at the end of the school ownership of the laptop due to licensing and security things (can't think of the right term).
You may need to eventually (after the 3yr contract expires) go to another IT tech to get some of the settings re-set so you can use it for the net at home.

The school will need to remove some programmes - such as school-lisenced word processing programmes and school-specific programmes, but the operating system needs to be bought with the netbook. If you own the netbook, the school should give you the operating system with the owner (ie your son) as admin so he can create accounts and go on-line. If they haven't, contact them and tell them the product you bought from them does not work and is still under contract with them to fix it.

Initially he had Windows 7 but after they removed the school programmes Windows XP was put on. When he first turned it on I had to register with Windows, I'm hoping I didn't do anything wrong there. I will ask on Monday at school, he was just so dissapointed that he got his Netbook back and hasn't been able to use it.
