I think it depends on the level of allergy. Ds is allergic to egg and cashews, along with other stuff we haven't been able to pinpoint, but he presents with a rash (sometimes in a matter of seconds).
I tend to keep a bottle of zyrtec infant drops in my bag. He's 3, but I just pop 6 or so drops on his tongue as required or when I see him starting to scratch. They work really well, really quickly.
    Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply. I guess i am wanting to know if his results returned high does this indicate what type of reaction he may suffer?

DS broke out in hives and was vomiting after being given hazelnut and egg white and cream!! why you would give this to a 5mth old baby i have no idea!(stupid BIL!!!)

I cant say for certain but as far as Im aware more emphasis is placed on the initial reaction as to how quickly it took to establish and how severe it was once established. We've only done the SPT so I can't really comment on the RAST side of things, your allergist should definately go over it with you. I know with the SPT that the reaction on the day doesnt indicate how a reaction may go to accidential exposure just that they are positive to them, unless they are exposed they cant say for certain that it will affect their airways etc, just that it is present. Also allergies will change over time especially when they present so young, however there are some that are more likely to be with you for life (such as tree nuts). It is also possible to tolerate some allergens in different forms, for instance DS can tolerate small amounts of well cooked egg in things like cake and biscuits but he cant tolerate an omelette or raw batter. Other reactions are more severe... he cant even look at a dog without going blotchy, but thus far none of those have affected his airways. We are yet to have exposure to his nut allergies and given that we have anaphalyasis in the family for those we are to avoid them. Im not sure that any of that helps lol sorry!

We too carry around zyrtec and his asthma inhalers.

BC thank you for your post.

DS was given hazelnut cream pav at my FIL's birthday and within seconds showed hives around his mouth, nose, eyes, torso. as the hives went within two hours he then began to vomit for the next 4 hours on and off each time the vomit amouts were big, so maybe 6 vomits in 4 hours then again only once after a feed the next morning.

I have an appointment with my pead for the 17th March but given these results that i have recieved from my GP i am concerned (as any mother) and very anxious about the wait in case he is exposed.

A friend kissed him on the forehead yesterday and as i was getting him in the car i noticed a reaction around this area (FFS!) so this concerns me as to how sensitive he may be.

Loula - a side note, could you ring your paed's office and explain your concerns to the receptionist? Perhaps ask to be kept on a wait list so you can be called at short notice (if that is possible for you). I think they would want to know about the forehead reaction too, it may help bump you up the list so to speak. xx

    Hi Lou

I don't know much about allergies, but does anyone in your or DH's family suffer allergies? If yes, their level of reaction may be indicative of how Will will react (just a guess/suggestion). I hope you get your answers and don't have to wait too long. OH - if you eat any of the listed items, does Will react to your breast milk? My understanding is that this happens when there are severe allergies involved. If Will doesn't react then hopefully this means less severe allergies.

    Thanks again!

I emailed my pead when DS had the reaction and he suggested to either see him or listed some allergiest to get a referal to. we are going back to the Pead on the 17th March and I requested that my GP send a copy of the lastest rast test to his rooms.

The only problem is his rooms are only open Tuesday abd Thursdays so i will have to wait till then to hear back from the email about his recent results

so in the meantime goggleing like mad and trying to get some idea on the severity of this

ETP the first appointment we got was the end of may and have now been given the March appointment but that wasprior to these lastest results
