What about getting some special family portraits on this special date.
So - we've set a wedding datelodged our intent to marry and penciled in our date with the celebrant today but ... I need some suggestions!
My mum would be really upset if she couldnt come but i dont want to tell her.
What can I say to make sure she actually sets that day aside for me without telling her? I thought about asking her to be a witness to a friends marriage, that way it all makes sense why we're getting our hair done - but DF doesnt like that idea ... seems a bit suss perhaps?
What would you say? I really dont want to tell her to the absolute last minute, but would like her to be prepared (you know - hair make up dress etc)

That's what I was going to suggest. You know those special boutique type ones where they charge you an arm and a leg. You could even say you won it as a prize in a raffle and have a limited time to use it, so you can't change the date.
Is there a particular reason why you want your wedding to be a surprise? She wouldn't be the type to get upset by that or is she kinda of expecting it?
The potrait thing is a great idea - at least she would get dressed up enough for it if it was for photos as well.
mmm that might work ... the 3 generations ... Grandma, ma, and daughter .... nice Danielle ...
Sorry - we all must have posted around the same time.
My mum would be devastated if I didnt invite her, but I wont be telling her that its our wedding day because she will tell everyone and that will p*ss me off (just like when I asked her not to tell anyone about my surgery)
I just told her a friend of mine knows a photographer who had a family generation that I bookedFingers crossed it works out! I will tell her on the day tho
