    URGENT - What to use instead of sour cream

    Just realised I have no sour cream and have already started cooking.

    All I have is cream, would that and some lemon juice be ok as a substitute?

    I have replaced sour cream with cream before....worked fine

    Cream should be fine, it will taste a little different to the way it was meant to taste, but still good We use natural yogurt instead of sour cream lots here.

    cream should be fine, cream with lemon should be fine as well if you want the 'tang'

    To sour cream you need to beat it with vinegar so I reckon that would work. I have used plain yogurt and tofu as replacements to sour cream.

    i ended up adding some lemon then some cream, but about half of what i would usually add if i had sour cream, its different but ok.

    I have used just plain cream in stroganoff, and it still tasted good. I was having a dunce moment and forgot to mix in the vinegar.
