    Anyone have an icecream maker?

I am hopelessly in love with appliances! DH loathes anything that only does one thing- like my dutch pancake maker, fairyfloss maker, donut maker- you get my drift LOL
Does anyone have an icecream amker? If so which brand and do you use it much? Is it worth buying?? Hit me with the good, the bad and the ugly please! I am eyeing them off on ebay atm.

I have my attachment for the KA, so that's not really a one hit wonder is it? Love that one.
Had a soft serve icecream machine, and only used it once in the 8 years we owned it....recently dropped it off at the second hand store.

I got one for christmas, it's a Cuisinart (and they come in heaps of cool colours!). It's ok to experiment with, but to be honest if you are big icecream eaters I wouldn't recommend getting one. It only makes about 1 1/2 litres, so if you only have a little every once in a while then it would do fine, but if you're like my dad/brothers and go through 4 litres/week then I'd say stick to supermarket icecream. Lol. Could get quite exxy if you're making it often, just a basic vanilla icecream uses 1 cup milk and 2 cups cream.

Im the same as Kim, have the KA attatchement and even though I really love it, it's not something that I use regularly because you can't just make a spur of the moment decision to use it, it takes a couple of days prep. Another thing, it is really quite expensive to make a litre of homemade icecream. Don't get me wrong, the ice cream maker churns out some absolutely devine stuff, but could become very exy making it all the time.

If I lived in a metro area I would definitely agree on the cost lol, but where we live icecream is more expensive than gold due to freighting costs!

Hi. I have a two litre cuisinart and it is brilliant. We have used it about four times this year which I think is pretty good. You can make two batches in one day as long as you get six hours bowl freezing in. You can
Also purchase extra freeze bowls separately for $70 or so. In short, I love it!

I don't know the brand name of mind but I do remember it was from Kmart and was under $50. I wouldn't have a clue how to use it Dh has made some incredibly delicious ice cream though..

He finds it time consuming so we only use it a couple of times a year as special treats.. Its easier to buy the ice cream but if you enjoy doing all that sort of thing then go for it

ps hazlenut coffee choc ice cream is to die for and is so rich you can only have a couple spoon fuls

I've got a Breville Crazy Scoops. It's second hand from my bestie (she got a cool new one!). This does then job. I've only ever made vanilla ice cream from the recipe in the manual and it was quite nice. The only downside is that you have to freeze the bowl for around 24 hours before mixing the ice-cream. So I just leave it in the freezer so it's there ready to go if I feel like making some ice-cream

Thanks ladies for all your replies.
I would love a KA and icecream attachment but thats all a bit exxy atm!
WE don't eat much icecream I guess I just like the idea of my own flavours etc. I think I might leave it until I see a great deal on ebay 2nd hand or something.

We have a breville one, and we all love it so much!
granted its painful that you to wait for it to freeze, but the precess of making it is the fun part. the girls love to go to the shops and pick the flavour they want, we all mix it up and they get to add the yummy bits. The girls love vanilla with the m&ms, or with different chocolates in it. Sorbet is my favourite, and a really good way to use up fruit that isnt being eaten. Normally each year for xmas we make extra special icecream for the adults which has a fair bit alcohol in it, its always a fav!

If you store the freezer bowl in the freezer permanently, then you can make it at a moment's notice (well, still have to cool the mix first)

I have a Sunbeam that I got for free from freecycle. For Christmas i got the icecream maker attachment to go with my Kenwood Chef. I use it about once every couple of weeks and love it. Mainly to make Green Tea Ice cream. It's divine and so easy to make. So far I haven't made the typical custard based ones.
I do agree with what the others have said. i find the amounts it makes too small. I would love to be able to make about 4l at a time. Mine makes about 2 and that just doesn't last...

Does anyone know if you can make soy ice cream with it?

So good used to do heaps of yummy soy flavours but now only do vanilla and choc (which I'm not a fan of!!) so it'd be great to make my own!!

Yes you can, although i have never done that. They usually use soy milk, soy yoghurt or silken tofu.
Google Soy icecream recipe and you should find a myriad of recipes.
You could also just add your own flavouring to the vanilla So Good icecream if you don't want too much effort. Let it soften, then stir through pureed strawberries or matcha green tea powder for example.
Or add some mashed banana to the chocolate ice cream.

Ive got a cuisinart one. Cost $250.00 (bought for $60.00 through tupperware when I was a demonstrator).

Used 5 times. Not really my thing. However, we did go to spotlight and picked up all sorts of flavours, caramel, boisenberry. But the novelty wore off pretty quickly and now it sits in the spare room. I'm not a huge ice cream fan though.

I am however, an appliance queen too!!! My latest - a breadmaker!!
