What??? Our new house has rats!!

Omg, I am so angry!! We got the keys to our new house and started cleaning only to find a massive hole with droppings behind the newly installed gas heater, and a big hole in the floor in what was to be ds's room which had been covered over with a scrap of spare carpet! Very clearly the work of rats or mice.

I called the real estate agent who turned into a real biatch and tried to tell me that there couldnt possibly be and I didn't know what I was talking about... She is 'to busy' to come round this afternoon to look herself but agreed to send a pest person to tell me that I am wrong! Our moving truck is booked for tomorrow at 12, so no chance of getting things done before we move in

We are paying 600 freaking dollars a week to live here, it's not like it's some dump that we should have expected this in. I'm just so mad I could cry!

Can you take some pics and email them to her, if she's so 'busy'. Not good enough on their part, it should've been cleared up before

Go above her head. We had to do that when we moved into a unit. The toilet was black, the floors hadn't been cleaned, it was just revolting. Agent told us to deal with it and he'd push back our rent. He didn't care. We called his boss, handed back the keys and it was fixed the next day.

    Take photos.
And tell them that you expect them to pay for the pest man to remove them.

Can we just hand back the keys? I don't want to live there anymore. We have already paid the bond and two weeks rent

I don't think you get a cooling off period on these types of contracts. I also doubt you'd get your money back without a fight.

I think you'd have to have a "subject to inspection" or something like that on the contract before you'd even get your money back.

Ok, I *may* have over reacted slightly! Turns out it's just one mouse... According to the pest guy anyway!

I emailed some photos and the RE was there within minutes and she apologized thank fully! Pest guy will get rid of it, handyman will cover the holes and our carpets will be steam cleaned! Phew..

    Now, back to packing!
