Well your meat and most veggies are free of carbs. It is if you want to add things like potatoes and pasta that you have to count those. A chat potato is worth 1 exchange or about 15 grams of carbs so work from there. Pasta - you just need to look at the back of the packets to work out how much to have. Usually 1/2 cup is worth 1 exchange or about 15 grams of carbs. Rice is 1/3 of a cup. It's hard when you first start out but it does get easier. I have 2 kids with type 1 and now I've been diagnosed with GD (for the 1st time) Or you can type into google - diabetic recipes and it brings up heaps of ideas
