When did your baby drop to 1 sleep?

Miss 14 months is currently having 2 day sleeps.
First sleep is 2 hours after she wakes- second sleep is 2-4 hours after she wakes from first sleep,
    ATM it's 8am= first sleep
    2pm= second sleep.
She sleeps for an hour-2 hours each sleep.
Problem is that she is waking up in the morning at 5.30am- I'm wondering if transitioning to 1 sleep will help her sleep in a bit?
She goes to bed at 7.30pm.

Hey Emma09 - you stole my thread, lol! Was going to post the exact same question as DS is sometimes refusing his second sleep so I was wondering if it meant he's transitioning to 1 sleep. 10 hours o'night is a pretty good sleep!

My DD was about 16 months, so only a couple of months ago. She's a bit of a sleeper-iner (lol) so it didn't make any difference to her wakeup time. It didn't make much difference to her bedtime either, she still goes down at 7ish. Sometimes it's straight down and sometimes she plays up for an hour or so.

Initially the one sleep was often long (her record after a trip to an indoor play centre was 4.5 hours straight!!) but they are most often 2-2.5 hours now.

TBH, I would have kept DD on two day sleeps for longer but all her activities (MG, swimming, playgroup, etc) fit with one days sleep so the change was necessary. Being ready for the day at 9-9.30 is good though

My dd was 11 months corrected. It took a few days to establish a good routine. Dont b worried if you have to still do the occasional 2 sleeps.

I found keeping a dairy of thier eat play sleep routine as well as when they get cranky to establish a pattern

My wee man was 15 months. He had been getting harder and harder to settle for an arvo sleep for a while so we bit the bullet and made the change.

It didn't make a difference to the length of his overnight sleeping, but it did make him easier to settle at night.

    Thanks for all the responses.
She is still more than happy to go down for both sleeps, doesn't fight it at all.
I guess I'll just wait till she gives me some signs that she is ready.
I'll have to deal with the 5.30am wake ups.....

Not really because it's not like he dropped to 1 longer day sleep, he just dropped one, if that makes sense.

Both my kids were early risers they are usually awake between 530-630 irrespective of when the go to bed

DD1 was 18mths, DD2 was 16mths, DD3 looks like doing it now at 13 mths. I found when it got harder and harder to put them down for the afternoon sleep, it was time to drop it. The morning one was always easier, so I just started putting her down later (from 9am to 10am to 11etc until it was 12pm ish so after a lunch. Stayed in that routine (sleep after a lunch) for another couple of years.....

Our DS was 16 months old when he went to one sleep. It didn't impact his waking time at all, but it was certainly easier to put him to bed at night!

The reason we knew he was ready for one sleep was that getting him to have his afternoon sleep was becoming a bit of a battle. If your DD is wanting a sleep only 2 hours after waking up then I would say that she still needs her two naps. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with testing the waters. Take her out somewhere entertaining just before 8am and try and push her back by a half hour every couple of days. If she is a misery while out, then you probably want to stick with the two naps. DS would last quite a bit longer if we were out somewhere and that is how we moved him from his usual 9am nap time to 11am.

Roya - that's what I was doing with DS, but we hit a wall at 10am, so we'll stick to that for a while! I think that's how we'll do it when he is ready to drop a nap though.

DS has been sleeping like a log and going down easily for both naps since I posted, so it seems like we're sticking with 2 naps here for a while yet! I'm sure now that I posted that, he'll surprise me again though! I quite like the two nap routine as we can visit people and he can sleep on the way there and the way home (most of our rellies/friends are 45mins-1 hour away).

about 18 or 19 months. the transition took a couple of weeks of short 45-60 mins naps quite early in the day (and looonnng afternoons with him cranky but refusing another nap) till he started staying up a bit longer (4-5 hours) & also sleeping for longer (2-2.5hrs).

A long long long time ago!!!! lol. Seriously, my DS has been a shocker of a day sleeper since a few months old, preferring to have one nap most of the time. At best, we had a 45 min to 1 hour sleep around 10.30 and then a 30 minute nap around 2-3 o'clock. Now that he is a year old, he still prefers 1 sleep a day, but it's around 1.5 to 2 hours usually around 11 am as he is a lot more mobile now and uses up a lot of his energy. I find that he burns out around 4 ish, but if he goes down, he won't go to sleep until 9.30 - 10 pm hich is way too late and not acceptable in this house hold. He usually wakes around 7.30 - 8 am, but often goes to bed around 8 -8.30 pm.
