dont do it with kids lol i just moved and it sucked but ummmm someone to look after the kids maybe other than that no idea good luck![]()
We are meant to be moving over the next couple of weeks (to another rental). We were meant to start putting things in the new garage from yesterday, but still haven't even paid the bond. We are meant to sign the lease on Monday, but I can see that not happening either.
I have about half filled a double horse float (LAST Tuesday), but have done very little more (maybe filled three more boxes? but have not made it outside to the float).
I've never moved with children before, and every other time we move, we've just left it all pretty much to the last minute, shoved everything anywhere, and just shifted it from one house to another. I can see that happening again here, and hope () that this time I will actually sort things out and discard a lot. But, in all honesty, I really can't be bothered moving any more. My enthusiasm in general has waned, and I need to find my mojo again.
Does anyone have any advice for successful moving (or even "don't do" tips) they wish to share? Do you make a list of what has to be done? Do you even follow it?
Thanks, I'm just in need of some serious encouragement me thinks.

Successful moving, mine just sort of happened (though I did start packing 2 months in advance cause I knew I couldn't get it done otherwise). The only thing I wrote a list out for was the cleaning so I did at least one thing a day, like cleaning the windows etc. Also found doing one room at a time helped as well.
Im not a list maker I leave everything till the last possible minute and hope for the bestgood luck chickie hope you find your moving mojo soon

Moving with kids is hard, even harder when you have no choice but to do it with them.
My advice is do 1 room at a time, possibly throw things away you don't need (or make charity box) rather than pack that stuff coz it's a waste of time. Move room by room so you dint feel overwhelmed. Keep kids things at the TOP of the pile so you can access them easily at the other end.... Unpack them and have the kids distracted so you can get on with it....
I'm sure I'll come up with some other things.... I'll think some more!
Good luck

Get a skip and chuck as you pack (if you need a skip). I am the most disorganised packer though. Makes unpacking fun cause I never know what I am going to find.
Hmm, thanks everyone. I think maybe because I have a few other things on my mind that is why my moving mojo has gone. (All mojo really. I really a**ed up something so that is playing on my mind a lot).
I had thought that with the kids in care and the ability to not have to be at work would have meant things would get done without them 'helping', but it's just not happening. I can't leave them with anyone else.
Looks like it will be the tried and tested 'leave it to the last minute' move.
ETA; we SO need a skip! The Man says he's going to get one for the shed/garage. In addition to house stuff, we have to move (but not all to the new house, its going in all different directions): four cars, one caravan, two trailers, and three motorbikes. And last but not least, rehome two dogs that no one seems to want.

Essentials in a box that you take in the car with you. Something to keep the kids occupied as well while you're moving things into the house (like a bucket of chalk if there is an outside area in the back with a concrete floor), or maybe get one room set-up with tv/dvd player and let them sit in there while everything is brought in.
Give me a yell if you need a hand, the car is supposed to be going into the smash repairs next week so it will be out of action for at least a week, but if I get it back by the end of the week I can help on Sunday.
Aww thanks Sopdet! The Punkinator is getting it's nose job ai? lol Thanks, I needed reminding on the 'essentials box'. Last time we moved, I remember doing a lot of it in the ex-ambo we had. Gees that could fit a lot of stuff in it!
Yay Me! Have packed ten boxes of stuff tonight! Not so happy thought, I did some of it while having a tv show called "Hoarding: Buried Alive" on. Perhaps not the smartest move. I am beginning to think that maybe I am a compulsive shopper, and maybe a hoarder. I have so many pairs of children's shoes that they are yet to grow into. Am I the only one with boxes (okay, they're not all that big, but there's still multiple boxes) of children's shoes????
Anyway. Happy I got some more packing done. Going 4wd tomorrow, and I plan to stack those ten boxes (plus the other three boxes from Tuesday, two toy crates, and a bag of books) into the float before we go in the morning. Fingers crossed I can do that!
