    Snacks for out and about

    Hi Everyone!!

Not see if this is a repeat or in the right place so feel free to move it if I am wrong!!

DD is one and I am feeling like I just feed her the same thing every single day. I am wondering what everyone else has on stand by for snacks when you are out and about?

At the moment we have sultanas, fruity bites or Heinz fruit bars in the nappy bag for emergencies. I have just purchased a lovely Tupperware kids lunchbox set and my plan is to make up her meals and snacks the night before to give me some extra time during the day.

Anyone have any snacks they recommend?? I hate getting caught out and then having to buy her something because it always seems to be so unhealthy!!

Sandwish fingers (A sandwich cut up in strips)
Salad, can make up a little lettuce, cheese, tomatos, greated carrot
Make some home made mini muffins
    Different fruit cut up
    rice cracker thingys

Of course all of the above depends on your child what allergies they have, if any; how well they chew their food, etc.

Saltanas are very high in something (Can not for the live of me remember, so dont give her them everyday, so I have been told)

    Fresh Fruit?
    Grapes
    Pears
    Bananas
    Plums
    Peaches
    Sticks of cheese
Cruskets with jam, avocado or vegemite on are a hit with DS at the moment. Or even cheese or cheese spread. Anything is possible with those really!

If DS wasn't scared of vegies he can identify I'd probably do carrot sticks, celery, cucumber... Etc

If we have chicken I'll chop up some of that into strips for him to munch on.

Mmmm... That's all I can think of right now!

DD is 2 and I tend to have a lunch box on hand with sandwiches, cut up fruit and whatever vegies are the fave of the day ~ at the moment its sugar snap peas so I chuck a couple of those in and hope they get eaten. Cheese & biccies, popcorn, cashew nuts, fruit muffins / fruit toast (toasted & with a small spread of butter) all seem to go down well too.

Squeezy thingys of yoghurt are good for when you get stuck shopping and they want something that is interesting, not too messy & not too unhealthy either.

Its hard keeping it different all the time and hoping that you're being healthy and covering all the nutritional bases!

I restock DS's Smash Lunchbox with snacks every night in preparation for the next day too. Anything that saves time and stress with a Little One during waking hours is worth the planning haha

I make Banana Bread & Fruit Muffins in advance, slice them up into say about the size of 4 bites and freeze them, they thaw out within 20 mins when taken out of freezer so are great to pop in the lunchbox on the way out or to grab out before morning/afternoon tea and DS LOVES them.

I do the same with Zucchini Slice, Quiche, Meatballs, Sausage Rolls and Chicken & Fish Nuggets too - All homemade, PACKED with Vegies, easy to make any time and freeze, can be defrosted and cooked quickly and are awesome for meals, snacks or even to take to toher people's houses and cook there if not sure what you'll be having to eat at someone else house.

    Other than that,

Sultanas, Dried Fruit: Apple, Apricots & Banana Chips are faves here
Muesli Bars & Fruit Sticks eg, the Little Kids Brand
Rice Cakes/Crackers & Cruskits with or without spread are both a hit with DS but he LOVES them with Cheese Spread
Yoghurt (Jalna) with pureed fruit mixed in a Tupperware Snack Cup, just keep cool in an insulated bag/pocket until eating
A new favourite is Nutri Grain, I pop a few in his lunchbox to nibble on, these are a real hit at the moment.
    Cut up pieces of cheese
Cooked and cooled pasta, ravioli etc
    Sandwich Fingers/Squares
Cut up pieces of fruit and cooked & cooled veg, Banana, Grapes, Strawberries & Broccoli are his fave (Another for the insulated bag)

    Back soon, bathtime beckons! x

Big hit here is peas - keep a bag of frozen peas in freezer - just put a few in mug with some water and cook for one min in microwave - cool down with tap water then put in container to take out. DD loves them and they make no mess (well no mess on her sometimes the floor is a different matter).

We love blueberries and grapes the best as take out fruit as they don't make mess and they keep DD occupied for ages.
She also loves sakatas, Bellamy's organic mini rice cakes with vegemite, plain stone ground corn chips, plain vege chips, homemade mini friands or pikelets, hard boiled egg, salad.
I always have a tin of baked beans and a spoon in my bag for emergency lunch. DD is wheat and dairy free so it's tricky to find healthy lunch options.

Our snack box has a variety of things

Cut up fruit (strawberries/watermelon), a banana or pear
Sultana bran buds are a hit
    Cruskits (plain)
    Fruit bars
Mini rice cakes (or big ones)
When DS was around one, we use to make little sandwich 'roll's, I stole the idea from another BB member - roll a peice of bread thinly with a rolling pin, spread it with anything - vegemite, cream cheese, avocado, mashed banana - any sandwich spread really, and then roll it up and let them chew on it, or cut it into bite size pieces - much less mess than them pulling apart sandwiches
We are also big fans of the squeeze pack yoghurts also
