    12 month vax - reaction?

    Hey,

DD had her 12 month vaccinations last monday (so 9 days ago now).

On monday night of this week she had a really high temp overnight. But it didn't bother her much, she was awake every sleep cycle for a few hours to feed but generally was ok.
Yesterday her temp went to 39.2 degrees at 4pm and stayed that way until around midnight and she became sleepy and grizzly. She kept falling asleep on the boob - which is SO unlike her. Her breathing was rapid and her heart rate was faster that normal. She cooled down at about midnight but was hot again when she woke for a feed at 2am.
She slept *fairly* well last night but was hot again overnight. She's got a temp of 38.9 this morning and has fallen back asleep after an hour of being awake - again VERY out of character for her.

The MMR information sheet says that side effects can be seen 7-10 days after immunisation - which falls right into what we're experiencing. Symptoms include sleepiness and high temps which is what the information sheet lists.

I rang the 13HEALTH number last night but as usual, they were about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

I'm unsure whether I should ride it out today and see what she's like tomorrow or see if we can get in at her Drs today.
What would you do? Would you be worried?

    TIA x

    Hi Sue,

Sorry to hear that Evie still isnt feeling very well. Iwould keep a eye on her today and if she is not improving at all by midday i'd ring the Dr's. Is she happy enough when she is awake or is she upset, lethargic and sleepy - if she is thec latter one i'd be ringing the Dr now. Thinking of you both ;hug:

Given they are 'usual' side effects, I would keep a close eye on her & if her temp doesn't go down later today, I'd take her in.

I would suggest Panadol and keep an eye on her but if you are worried I suggest getting her checked out.

Fever and sleepiness is a common side effect from vaacines.

She's better. Not as hot and is her usual bubbly self. This happened yesterday though and she went downhill at around 4pm. But she's having a nap just now so will see what she's like when she wakes.

    Thanks everyone xxxx

    Hey hun,

I know this might be completely different cos she has just had her needles but thought i would post anyways. Our DD (same age) recently had something very very similar with high temps that i couldn't get down. She was her normal bubbly self during the day but come night would be a mess. Eventually took her to the doctor (who took one look at her and was like shes not sick - she was climbing all over her!) and found out she had tonsillitis. Not saying she is sick in any other way than a reaction to the vaccine but i guess it doesn't hurt to get them checked out in case it's something else...Hope bubba is feeling better

Thanks MumtoA, I'll keep that in mind! Your poor bubba!

DD was fine last night, no temps or anything, so I am hoping that she's over it. I will keep observing though.

    Thanks
