    Question Shoes for toddlers

Are there places in Melbourne that still help you fit shoes for kids?

Do you go for 'good' shoes for kids or just kmart specials or a combo?

i have talipes so shoe shopping always sucked for me, but i think i would like to get DD some good quality shoes but not sure where to go. She has just started walking, i have some hand me down shoes still in good condition, but i think i want to buy her a good pair too. (and it's pay day!)

how many pairs of shoes do you get for kids?

I get at least one pair of good fitted shoes per size (if I can get some on sale in their size, they will get a few pairs, otherwise if full price, just the one).. These are used most of the time when out, and they get cheap shoes for playing in the garden.

I am not in Melbourne so can't answer your first question.
In all honesty I wouldn't get more than 1 'good' pair of shoes for any toddler. Their feet grow way too fast. I have gotten almost all of my boy's shoes from the DFO here in Brisbane, there is a comfy sensible type show shop there that sometimes has good kids shoes really cheap, and I have found the sports stores there (converse in particular) often have good kids shoe specials and the staff will often help you fit them. I would imagine it is similar down there.
Kmart and Target have some good shoes too, they are definitely worth a look.

I buy the 'good ones' from shoe box which is a clarkes shoe shop, there us another kids one but I can't remember the name, where in melb are you?.
We have good runners as well that I buy from a sports shop as she spends loads of time in these... But when she was just walking we used only one pair or bare feet.

i'm south of the city but have found myer good for fitting, dj's fit as well but the store near me has gone downhill & i preferred the service in myer. i think most stores that stock clarks are pretty reliable for fitting - there's one near me that are great. and there's one other chain store in my local shopping centre that fits as well - it might be betts for kids? not sure.

i bought a pair of clarks for DS' first pair of shoes - waited till he'd been walking for maybe 6-8 weeks & then got him fitted. i also bought some thongs for summer - not for walking long distances. once he'd been fitted i looked on ebay & managed to get a second pair of clarks for $6 - hardly any wear so major bargain!

we've pretty much had one main pair of shoes so far & one secondary pair that aren't as good & are more just for walking from the car to the house & that sort of thing.

There's a shop in Eltham, inside the Eltham Mall in Arthur Street (NAB on the outside of the building) that fits them. They're a little pricey, but they do a good job - but if you happen to go in school holidays, it's literally take a number and wait your turn.

There is a shop in epping plaza near target that have clarkes shoes- the name of the shop escapes me.
Also in Westfield plenty valley, there is a specialist childrens shoe shop opposite Gloria jeans.
Alternatively, there is also betts kids at northland.

I get DS's shoes from a place called Shoes and Sox, it's a chain but I think all the stores are in the eastern suburbs. They have trained fitters and seem to know what they are talking about.

We go to Shoes and Sox. DD has in the past had a good pair of shoes for winter and then another pair for summer. They are usually pretty trashed by the end of the season. Sometimes we'll grab some KMart ones to tide us over if her feet have grown too much yet and they don't have the new season shoes in yet. I definitely prefer getting them professionally fitted than trying to do it myself. This winter we've gone for a day care pair (sneaker type) and her pretty weekend pair - got them for $50 each which I was pretty happy with. DD has narrow feet which is another reason I like getting it done properly as there were some she tried on which I thought were OK, but the professional fitter had concerns about.
