Question Rectal Abscess - 6mths Old

Has anyone heard of a baby having this, a very close friend of ours is currently at RCH Emergency with her 6mth old, the Dr believes he has a rectal abcscess and he's never before seen 1 in a baby

I saw Master F yesterday and feel horrible as when my friend B asked me to have a look i joked and nicknamed him Lumpy Butt.

I wasn't sure what it was, he has a lump that is not raised but actually under the skin, you could feel it and it was starting to get bigger and go over his poor little bottom hole, it was a solid mass which did not seem to hurt when touched but he did notice is.

So Master F is currently awaiting an operation, at only 6mths old, i have told B that i am here should she need anything and to let me know.
What else can i do? I fell so helpless, poor little man shouldn't have to undergo an op at this age.

I know he's in a safe place and they will do everything they need to.

    What causes these things?

    Oh s**t, poor little guy!!
I have no idea what causes these things but it sounds terrible,
Very good though its been sorted out.
Did they say what it was from? Will it grow back?
Big 's to you and your friend, never nice seeing a little bub in these situations..

I haven't really had a chance to talk to her, just a few SMS last night. she said she was quiet nervy seeing him go in but is hoping to be home today and that it heals well.
I assume it would be quite hard to keep clean on a little baby to allow healing
Poor Mr F, i might try and organise to go over there monday or something with a big block of chocolate and let her have a bit of a rest.

I don't know what causes it but when i felt it the other day it really was quite big in comparison to his poor little bum, i will ask when i see her.

Thanks hun.. i was so so nervous for them, might go buy him a little get well present!

A mate of a mate had one that was caused by an ingrown hair. (i think it was kinda the same thing your friend's bubba had).

i'm working monday but if you need your monkeys looked after later in the week so you can help out your friend let me know.

Oh the poor lil munchkin! I hope his little bottom heals nicely and quickly. It's so aweful when they have to have an operation at that age...Big cuddles for your friend's little boy
